Yes I am indeed a fellow brummie, though I do like to say I live just far enough outside the centre to avoid the accent, which is statistically thicker-sounding than total silence, but my friends inform me that when I get annoyed I turn into Noddy Holder /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Cant make it down to Plymouth, havent got a car or a train, or a bus for that matter..., cant afford the insurance! I'll send a virtual drink /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I should add that I cant comment on whatever you lot are arguing about cos i havent been bothered to read the thread, but I do enjoy a mini bust-up, and I hate missing an opportunity to use my native tongue of 'txt spk' /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

And why not Nomad .. she IS 17.. so fairy nuff.... sensible parenting... but ibiza is a sleaze pit.....

It seems you have the problem, not your daughter, who admirably sticks up for you, would expect nothing less from a well sorted 17 year old...

The Ibizans are NOT racist, they are culturalist.. they HATE anyone trying to set up a mini culture within their world.. and why not ??.. most brits aint RACIALLY prejudice if they analyse their thoughts and reactions, they are CULTURALSIT.. and I am too.... when in Rome etc.. people coming into the UK that want a mini Pakistan, India, West Indies, Poland etc etc etc, they can all go back on the next plane for me.. people who Genuinely WANT to adapt and fit in, cool !!.,. no worries..

I tell you this, they DONT hate the Brits, what they DO HATE, is the enforced mini britain pushed on them by the low IQ owners of 'english breakfast served all day' bars and the like.. and quite right too.

Joe.

Yes, I have been to Ibiza several times. Love it! Many great anchorages.

I think you should try a little more positive attitude; you will be surprised what an effect it can have on others. Life is too short to do the battles you are fighting. Have a great day!

For the last 3 years i've spent three to four weeks in June/Julyevery year cruising round Ibiza & in that time have been invited out/round to dinner several times by locals that I have met up with whilst anchoring in isolated calas. I really cant see what your problem is, all the ones I come into contact with. including the mainland Spanish have all been most hospitable & courteous.

again people jump to the wrong conclusions, we hate all the enforced britishness of ibiza, and only go to the spanish bars and restaurants, unfortunately the service on the whole is terrible, but then we have been to some very good places so perhaps we set our standards too high. I absolutely agree with your views on when in rome etc, but your comments on mini pakistan, poland etc, wouldn't some people view that as racist, thats how it sounds when I read it. My daughter stuck up for me because she knows the type of person I am, and that on the whole all the comments I have received have been totally the opposite of what I am like. I will stick up for myself and have taught her the same, its easy to bully someone when you know you will never meet them face to face.

my daughter and I were discussing this site last night, and we agree that its the people who have never left the island or travelled outside spain that are the worst. What they seem to forget, is that its the tourists that are their livelihood and without them they wouldn't have jobs. To be civil to people doesn't cost anything, yes the brits are loud, but they are on holiday and have probably worked all year to enjoy themselves for one or two weeks in Ibiza.

oh well, here's a drink back to you instead /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif cheers /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Seems to be going a bit quiet on this thread now but to spice things up again I have just received this: -

The world-famous Red Arrows have been banned from appearing at the 2012 London Olympics because they are deemed 'too British'.
Organisers of the event say that the Arrows military background might be 'offensive' to other countries taking part in the Games.
The display team have performed at more than 4000 events worldwide, but the Department of Culture, Media and Sport have deemed the display team 'too militaristically British'. Red Arrows pilots were said to be 'outraged', as they had hoped to put on a truly world class display for the Games, something which had never been seen before.
Being axed from a British-based event for being 'too British' is an insult - the Arrows are a symbol of Britain.

The Red Arrows have been excellent ambassadors for British overseas trade, as they display their British-built Hawk aircraft all over the world. The Arrows performed a short flypast in 2005 when the winning bid was announced, but their flypast at the Games was to have been truly spectacular.

"agree with your views on when in Rome etc, but your comments on mini Pakistan, Poland etc, wouldn't some people view that as racist.?"

I've lived in too many countries over the last 40 years to be anything BUT racist now.! What's wrong with that anyway.?
Let's just call it 'National Pride', hey.?

On my travels around the world I always remember the old adage: "To have been born British, (& of course hold a British Passport) is to have won 1.st prize in the lottery of life.!

Jock

I think this story first appeared in the Sun and like many offerings form that newspapaer it was not true. The Red arrows themselves put out the below statement -

"There has been a lot of speculation recently both in the media and online regarding whether we have been banned from displaying at the 2012 Olympics, and we are getting an increasingly large amount of enquiries from people wondering whether or not to sign online petitions. We are very happy to tell you that the story is complete rubbish! It’s far too early for either us or the organising committee of London 2012 to discuss any participation by the Red Arrows in the celebrations. We plan our display season one year in advance and so we’re currently busy trying to organise our 2008 display season. We would like to thank everyone for their support – but hope that the truth behind this story will put everyone’s concerns to rest"

The organising committee for the olympics also put out a similar message

In the foregoing post it was mentioned that they spend 7(!) years in Ibiza. I can't understand that one stays in a place for so many years, when one seems to detest it so much.

I was always told that if you could get away with it for 7 years then the tax man couldn't touch you when you returned . . . . mmmmmmmmm, thinks?? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

The number of times I've seen that quoted.

Unfortunately for you and so many others who would love to believe it, it's complete rubbish. An urban myth.

Yo Nomad, you seem like a feisty type lol..

I will share a beer with ya anytime.! - lang may ya lumb reek !

Joe

Apologies for being pedantic but

It should read.."lang may your lum reek" which translates literally as "long may your chimney smoke" meaning more or less" long life"

Wouldnt waste your fuel !!
I say cancel the games and keep the Red Arrows!!
Pathetic P.C. wimps abound these days.
Looks like another case of disinherit yourself from the achievements of our past and our superior(skill)military services.
Come back Nelson perhaps a broadside would impress more?
I for one am proud of our past and the good that we have done, plenty like our "hospitality" today .

It's a rumour that people keep spreading that is without foundation, and the Red Arrows posted a comment on their website last year saying it was not true, when this rumour first started, and that they were still finalising their 2008 schedule, and would not be considering any 2012 events at this time.

Thanks for the translation. I was afraid it could mean something close to positive. Nomad has now shown on several threads to be spreading clear lies and seriously bigoted racial views. Please avoid responding to this poster as it will only encourage her. I would recommend to use the good 'ignore this user' function that this thread offers.
