I bought a ketch with a 48hp engine. Now the engine is got for general overholing here in the Philippines. Unfortuanatly is there no manufacturing plate at the engine. Only following marks at one small plate: Standard motor Co. LTD, England, Pigardo &Co Engineers.
In the yacht - registration is anounced: One Standard Triumph, conventry, geared internal combusion engine- four cylinder, Brake power: 40 bhp.

Now anybody something about that engine and maybe where are spare parts available.
Thanks in advance

This engine sounds like the Standard Triumph S4 OHV. It was produced from the early fifties in cars like the Vanguard and Mayflower and thousands were put into Triumph Heralds as the 1200, later stroked out to the 13/60.

Production continued after Triumph was swallowed up into BMC and Austin Rover, so spares are available. The last production model was the Triumph Dolomite in 1980. In the Phillipines I guess a Rover dealership might be the first port of call. For general details on the engine try www.motorbase.com/engine/6/vehicles.html
The Triumph Sports Six Club could point to UK parts sources. (I think its www.TSSC.cu.uk)
Incidentally, the S4 had two extra cylinders added with c.c. increased to 1600 and 2 litre for the Vitesse, GT6 and Triumph 2000 ranges... most of the liners, pistons, bearings, etc are common to the four cylinder engine.

Standard Triumph were a car manufacturer in the UK they went out of biz in the 70s ?
the engine you have got was fitted in the Standard Vanguard saloon etc,is it diesel?
and if so it was also fitted in massey ferguson diesel tractors, i think the parts are still available from specialist recon engineers but dont ask me where.

Re: Pigardo &Co Engineers

It was ricardo & co, famous diesel engineers, but that was only put on the engine cause they designed it (i think)
remember doing one of these up about 20 + years ago and am not sure but i think we put leyland pistons in it, as i said before you need a good old fashioned motor engineer who does rebores and crank grinding, they will have the cross references for pattern parts or even sizes to cross reference.
you can tell if you get the right place because the boss will have a flat greasy cap on and there will be old lathes and milling machines and things like that !!

What fuel?

I vaguely remember that Ferguson T20 tractors, the diesel versions, which were built by Standard, had a Ricardo plate on the engine. Ricardo were specialist consultants in diesel engine technology and developed diesel designs for a number of car manufacturers based on existing petrol burning designs. These engines were of about 2000cc and produced only about 25 hp in the tractor setup. Your engine may be a road-going version from a Standard Atlas van; a maximum output of 40-48 hp would be quite likely in that case, although it's probably not set up that way in the boat. I'm almost certain the Ferguson diesel is the only diesel engine Standard-Triumph ever produced.
If your engine is the T20 Ferguson tractor engine, virtually all spare parts are easy to obtain in the UK at relatively low prices. For example:
