The club I belong to uses old lorry axels on members launching trolleys. the problem is that they are "split rim" types and both the rims and the tyres are getting tired. I am thinking of filling my tyres with concrete made with pea shingle so that I can pour it in a hole that I can make on the top of the tyre. One tyre in the club has already blown out this year, which sent quite a few people into a panic. Does anyone have any other ideas, I know the concrete wheel and tyre will be heavy, but the tractor rolls it, it doesnt have to lift it. Any ideas even those which may seem silly are welcome. Thanks and regards.

Seen that done, but it just crushes with just the wieght of a car on it. Probably the easiest thing to do would be to take them down to your local tyre fitters and get them to put a tube in it.

Once the foam has crushed, put some more in - and keep doing it until you have a lot of very dense foam in the tyre.

Hmm so how many cans of foam will this take? And the price of it you'll probably spend same in foam as you would buying a new set of tubes for all the wheels in the yard.

No I think i'd stick the wheel in a van/trailer and take it to the local tyre chappy. Explain that its not a road going tyre and bung 'im 20 quid to put a tube in it.

Thanks for all the ideas, I am not so poor that I cannot buy more tyres or tubes its more a case of them (split rims ) are getting harder to find. and as they only travel 100 meters per year. I am concerned about the tyres blowing out and or the rims rusting and blowing out. Even though they are waxoiled every year. I too had thought of foam but it needs a foam with a much higher surface tension so not to break down. Again concrete made with pea shingle seems the best but as It hasnt got to be done until next season I have plenty of time. thanks again and regards
