Hello all,

Im looking for advice / example of a decent rudder for a heard tosher 20. If anyone has experience in making a new rudder for a long keel 20ft gaffer, or has a tosher and wouldn't mind me copying their design, then let me know !

Thanks in advance.

Did you get all you needed?

I had to make a new rudder for a Tamarisk 22 when the old one fell apart a couple of years ago. Very conventional: Two pieces of 5/8 decent marine ply glued together with Balcotan. (on a truly flat surface!). Then a pair of cheeks made from iroko, degreased and epoxied on. Also as I'm a belt and braces chap- bolted up with stainless bolts epoxied into counterbored holes and plugged.

Profiled rudder so it was something like then sawed bottom 2" off rudder and then glued it back on with thickened poxy - ie. the wheeze suggested by West to prevent moisture creeping up the blade should the bottom be scraped. Finally thin layer of woven glass poxied on to blade to give a bit of water resistance.

It looks good and is very strong even if it is not all made of real wood.
