Thru hull fitting

Not to cause you any more angst but it has been suggested that someone asks you how you feel about Harry Kane moving to Bayern Munich 😁

only Bouba can get a thread to 125posts on such a bleeding simple and obvious issue and STILL haven't even removed the effing flexhose...

And most of those posts are about replacing the through-hull, upon which Bouba has become fixated without any clear rationale or relationship of that to the 'rust' he observed and originally reported as the problem!

He has even made replacing the through-hull unnecessarily complicated for himself by insisting on using only a Trudesign brand one, which is neither in stock nor clearly easy to connect to the particular hose he has.

I do hope it all works out for him, but it would not be beyond the realms of possibility for all this to result in launching of the boat being delayed, and yet the source of the original problem (if there really was one) still being unidentified and unresolved.

I have had Trudesign on my wish list for a long time😀. I’m pretty sure the existing fitting is good but I am happy to change it while it’s on the hard..and next year I hope to change some more..the Onan engineer is coming as soon as the boat is launched..so not worth me tinkering with it

This is the water pipe that goes to the thru hull…you can see the rust was coming from the generator side not the seacock

I am also planning to replace all the fittings with Trudesign and all my anodes to aluminum...it would have all been done by now in a leisurely fashion but we only just came back from England
It will be interesting to see how the aluminium anodes work in your situation. Might be slightly less active than zinc in a marina environment?

In the sense that they last longer (according to my research) but I am hoping they are just as effective

I’ve never tried them but I have read that, whilst they’re less toxic and capable of being very effective, they can oxidise and stop working so well if they don’t get a decent flow of water over their surfaces.

Aluminium is slightly lower in the galvanic series than zinc so will not be as effective but whether it's effective enough I don't know. Aluminium is oxidised within milliseconds of being exposed to air and is passivated but in a strong electrolytic solution such as sea water this will be removed almost instantly so it will not impair the reactivity.
Personally I would continue to use zinc anodes for the small benefit over the cost.

My motivation for getting aluminum is the long life... I am tired of that end of year worrying about the anodes when it’s too cold to get in the water and look
