A rubber pipe seems to have built up some sort of restriction (like atherosclerosis) causing pressure on the water pump, blowing the gasket.
To replace the pipe, rusty water pump and sender which had water dripping on it has added €1500 to my €6000 service![]()
To be honest...I have always checked the front of the genny to see if there is any weepage from the pump...and I have never seen any...it must have snuck up fast on meLet's hope they have discovered the cause of the problem and are not just treating the symptoms ... welcome to the world of Onan and Cumas!
Make sure you check in and around the weep holes of the new sea water pump for signs of leaks and corrosion on a regular basis. The last two pumps I had were installed by Cumas and both developed small leaks within 20 hours of use. Cumas has a 12 month warranty on parts, but you need to inform them of the problem ASAP.
Hi everyone
My boat is on the hard and today I noticed that the underwater thru hull fitting for the water from the exhaust gas separator of the generator was almost blocked with rust.
I haven’t measured it yet but I think the pipe going onto the fitting is two inches (I will confirm that tomorrow)...
So first question...does that make it a two inch fitting or is there another metric involved.
Second...I would like to replace it with a composite plastic fitting...the hull is balsa cored...is it a two man job?
What sealant is used...how tight etc ...is there a definitive guide to teach me how?

Thanks for the link...and you are also in the same boat...personally I would like to change all of mine for the made in New Zealand composite Trudesign....but, even changing one can be a pig of a job..so I will do it slowly over the years. In principle the less metal below the waterline the better. I can say that it is a DIY job...but it takes considerable planning because the Trudesign are bigger and you have to think very carefully before changing anything...for example, is there enough room to actually spin the fitting as you tighten it up...I didn’t think of this, and luckily there was a millimeter of clearance.... and of course the length of it etc etc.I find myself in the same position as Bouba . My defever 44 trawler is on the hard in EMPURIABRAVA spain - my own broker and previous owner were in cahoots and lied about true condition of my boat - so I’ve got some work on my hands - hoping someone on this forum might know someone in that area that is competent and confident to refurbish/replace existing valves / seacocks on my boat. Maybe even in Barcelona. Wanna get it done RIGHT. I also reached out to the defever group. Posting some screenshots of what I’m looking to get done- appreciate the info and banter on this forum. Thanx
