Thread Hijacking

Thanks for that, I've used it to send an email, we'll see if they do anything.

I'm curious

Given that the people who's posts have been deleted were all on the ECF well before it was moved, what difference would moving the forum back into the boondocks make?

And even putting that salient point aside, how would moving the forum now get rid of people or change attitudes?

It's a red herring. In fact, it's nonsense. Worse, it could even be the case that it's being used an excuse for bad behaviour by people who should know better

Bru & Little Grebe, at least I'm trying to do something about the problem, what's your suggestion?

I suppose we could adopt the policy, that sort of grew organically here, of not encouraging poor behaviour and rudeness or whatever.

Simply ignore those that wind you up, don't engage with them, just pretend they have gone away and if enough of us do so, they certainly will.

Thinking about it, perhaps a comment along the lines of, we do not behave that way thank you, just to let them know we have standards. Admittedly low ones, but standards all the same:-)

I think there has always been the odd thread that has got out of hand, I recall the various unpleasant comments made about the Royal Harwich YC a year or two back.

The only change is when this happens now some people then post assigning the problem to the change in the forum order rather than just ignoring them or whatever we did in the past.

Nail, head ...

Exactly

A mountain is being made out of a mole hill!

- You can not deny that the recent 'more annimated' threads do seem to attract newer ECF posters.
- If the position of the ECF on the YBW forum picking order makes no difference, why would you oppose a move back to the boondocks?

What, like Sailorman you mean? (Who got the most posts deleted eh? eh? :p)

I wouldn't particularly oppose it, I just don't see the point. Even if one accepts the argument that the move has attracted unwelcome new posters (which I don't), it would in any case be a case of shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted

And anyway, since it's highly unlikely that the admins will change their minds and disorganise the forums again just to suit those who would prefer to keep things in a parochial backwater, it's a moot argument!

The whole thread was started by "an outsider", i started by pointing out in that thread, a local forumite who "drops by" drift a thread & to regrind his axe, regarding all his pet objections in & around the Orwell & Ipswich Town.
View his photos, on & around the Orwell, he goes out of his way to look for trouble.
who got the Rs over those posts & reported them

Oh & check-out #26

True that SM. And to Bru - SM has been around these parts a lot longer than you and contributed here since the ECF began, new members are welcome here but we've always had a different approach - we speak to each other online in the sort of manner in which we would if we were face to face, for the simple reason that we often do meet face to face at the gatherings and dinners.

Now you see you might want to reconsider the tone of that. Because I know Sailorman (Rog) has been here longer than me. And I know Sailorman, and lots of other posters on here, in person as well as on the forum and I'm regularly at the aforementioned meets. I'm sure you didn't mean to sound as condescending as it came across!

And it says, and has always said, "All welcome, not just East Coast" on the banner. It isn't some private club just for those on the membership list

Edit: Not that much longer than me really, three years. Granted I didn't used to post much until we bought the first boat

Boondocks: The expression was introduced to English by U.S. military personnel serving in the Philippines at the turn of the 20th century.[3][4] It derives from the Tagalog word "bundok", which means "mountain".[5][6] According to military historian Paul A. Kramer, the term originally had "connotations of bewilderment and confusion", due to the guerrilla warfare the soldiers were engaged in.[4]

In the Philippines, the word bundok is also a colloquialism referring to rural inland areas, which are usually mountainous and difficult to access, as most major cities and settlements in the Philippines are located on or near the coastline.[6] Equivalent terms include the Spanish-derived probinsiya ("province") and the Cebuano term bukid ("mountain").[7] When used generally, the term refers to a rustic or uncivilized area. When referring to people (taga-bundok or probinsiyano in Tagalog; taga-bukid in Cebuano; English: "someone who comes from the mountains/provinces"), it acquires a derogatory connotation of a stereotype of unsophisticated, ignorant, and illiterate country people.[8]

I never reported you not this time nor the last time when you actually posted my name. I do not regard you significant enough to engage and I am only replying here to set the record straight. As a user of forums for many years I expect your posts were deleted because you were quite obviously stalking me in a way that may have been construed as harassment i.e. unlawfully and the mods recognised that was damaging to this forum and could result in legal action. I am a bit more thick skinned than that but they probably didn't want others to think your behaviour acceptable. Asking me to identify myself confidentially to you then reposting it is the action of a troll.

Isn't "boondocks" an americanism?

If so why do we want to become American?

We now get out language from them via kids tv, have a nice day Sir

Ahh, well, tis probable of course that its em Thar American Air-force Bases in Suffolk n Norfolk that can influence us in our Heritage language, and of course, tis somewhat influencing our East Coasters to adopt 'slang' probably picked up when socializing if Filling Stations and Tuck Shops locally.
