Thread Hijacking

A bit like starting a conversation with one person in the pub then the group next to you chip in, contribute, then take over the topic, its as if you didn`t exist in the first place!;):encouragement:

As ever it's the same members as before the forum moved in the list...

Exactly. The thread hijacking "culprit" has been banging that particular soapbox since long before the forum was moved

The forum is what we make of it and if it's gone a bit quiet at the moment that's probably as much to do with the time of year as anything

And I'd throw a little caution into the breeze - the reason the Lounge has all but died is not because of the moderation but because too many denizens thereof refused to accept the moderation (regardless of the arguments for and against, it was brick walls and head banging). The constant moaning about how the forum was run did a lot of damage to the forum

It really makes no odds where this forum is in the list of forums and I doubt the admins are going to change it back again so get over it, get on with it, and stop whinging!

It'll all be cool again when the spring comes around :)

Obviously people from Birdham Pool don't know how to navigate the East Coast.

Ouch!

But it's not true - last summer we cruised from Birdham via the Swale (our boat's name is on a plank at Queenborough), Medway, Mersea Quarters and Orwell, all the way up the Alde to Snape, the closest navigable water to where I grew up. I have loved the Suffolk rivers for 57 years and I think I do know how to navigate the East Coast (with the help of CTTE and ECP of course).

However I am obviously out of step with the majority here, so I am going to leave it at that.

TB has "form" and has very large axe to grind at every opportunity available to him

+1

And I think Sailorman, in his usual friendly no-nonsense way, has put his finger on the cause of any unpleasantness in the thread referred to.

Thread hijacking, or to use an alternative name, Fred Drift, has always struck me as yet another example of the flexibility (some call it imprecision) of our wonderful language, and the way the natives use it. It is, like knowledge, a force for neither good nor bad, those qualities being contributed by the user. Nonetheless, more often than not, a Drift manages to raise a chuckle from me.

Just in case it should worry someone, I will here declare an interest in the business of Suffolk Yacht Harbour. Being from a local family of stonemasons / boatbuilders (no, we never built a granite boat) our family was among those who started the business on the land of a local farmer, whose family remain involved.

Elsewhere there is no moderation & there seem no point at pushing an open door. The IPC MODS ( note IPC MODS ) caused their own problems by adjusting the door closer without mentioning that the "snap-shut" had been tightened.
I am not bothered where we are on the listing BUT it was stated a few times in the past that the ECF would say out of view just up the East Coast creek.

Sara...

Are you lost?... tis a long way from the moors to the civilised East Coast.. Will you be taking up residence in civilisation ... or is this a passing visit?

:) I have two good friends on the East Coast; one of them in a nunnery, the other helps with disabled sailing on Waveney Stardust on the Broads.

And I have family farming old connections around the Wash, and was brought up on stories of my father and uncles skating to school winter after winter along miles of deep frozen Drains, and hegglers.

And as for sailing, I was the naviguesser on a boat which won the Town Cup.

The East Coast is never far from my thoughts.

Mass culls of posts and vigorous moderator intervention on the ECF?

MODS PLEASE PUT US BACK IN THE CREEK! Obscurity was good for us, now we're up the top and next to the lounge just look what's happening.

I emphasize that I have no intention or desire to re-open the ‘drift too far’. But it was one of the most ironic things I’ve seen in a while that, after complaining about drift, in a thread devoted to the evils of drift, the complainants were … er … drifting away merrily themselves! “You couldn’t make it up!” were the words that came to mind. :)

Posts on ECF shouldn't be deleted by the mods, we should be able to look after ourselves but since the forum moved it's not been the same place.
