We have a screen cover made from Sunbrella or similar which now needs repair or replacement. I would quite like to add some form of heat reflective or thermal backing to it to try and limit heat transfer into the boat on sunny days. Is there any weatherproof/durable material which can be sewn or bonded onto the back of it to achieve this goal? Being dark blue a significant amount of solar energy is transferred onto the glass windscreen and hence into the cabin. Old image below from when we were originally making it.

The really obvious solution is to make it white. Mine are quite cool. Yes they will get dirty. Is it is boat or jewelry? Always function over appearance. Adding a backing would hold moisture (mold), not work as well, and take more space to store. This is why boats are white (dark decks are hot too).

They are blue on my F-24. Yup, they are much warmer. I had the fabric, we day sail the boat, and barely used the cabin. If I cruised it they would be white.

We have a somewhat smaller windscreen but just put an RNLI branded screen over the blue canvas on hot days. You could just buy a roll of reflective foil from screwfix sold to go behind a radiator or loft beam insulation -I guess for a neat finish and more permanent you could cut out shapes and stick it on back of the sunbrella fabric.your cover beneath the wipers is quite baggy so there should be space to take the reflective foil inside .another thought are 3 pieces of thin polystyrene from packing inside the windows ?
