Apologies if this should be in the Lounge but it is boaty. BTW I am not expressing any sort of opinion on whether anyone is handling things badly or well, just commenting on the effects on my hobby. Please dont hijack.

Boat on the hard in Gosport, marina also in Gosport, both Tier 4. Strong hints that this is going to be the same or tighter until Easter at least. AFAIK no point in renewing my contract with a marina which wont/cant allow access anyway due to Tier, boat probably safer in the yard at least the anodes wont waste away. Not a happy bunny.

My boat is in the water but hasnt been out for well over two years. I did have some very good antifoul on her but the rudder and prop are looking poorly now. Not sure when I will be able to lift out and get on with it. Not connected to shore power and I get very little anode erosion so hopefully that is still OK. We live in hope

All our boats have been out of the water since early October 2019, now, with no clear idea of what is going to happen over the next few months we are all hoping that things improve and we can launch next year, but not holding my breath.

I had 18 months in the water and in the end got a diver to go down and replace the anodes. Not ideal but better than nothing.

And here was me feeling miserable Cos it’s raining and I want a few dry days to crack on with some boat jobs.

I got stuck in a closed marina for the whole of lockdown earlier on this year while all that glorious weather went to waste (sort of) and my free (ish) mooring sat empty.

Still, plenty of folk would swap their COVID problems for my insignificant ones..

Absolutely. I am aware that whinging about my boat is a very first world problem. I live in a lowish COVID area and am healthy so far. Just letting off steam to my like minded boaty people.

My boat is in Gosport too (although in the water). Let's hope that the vaccine program starts to show results by the spring so that we might get something approaching normality by the summer. Here's hoping!!

I was going to re-engine this winter which meant altering the nacelle that the outboard is mounted on. I'm glad I didn't start but postponed it till next winter. It has stopped all the other small jobs though, that a forty plus year old boat requires; but none of them should cause problems next year ......

Yeah, that was my view too. I've held off booking my spring lift out but eventually took the plunge a couple of weeks ago and booked to come out for a couple of weeks over Easter. Am hoping we should be coming out of it by then. Of course the worst outcome would be to be lifted out, then put in Tier4 with a delayed launch and a bill for long shore storage - all whilst not able to access the boat. I had thought about delaying and doing a mid season lift but figured I didn't want her out the water during prime sailing time

While it is perfectly understandable why people might wish to give the 'bad lands' of Gosport a miss at the moment, there is no reason for the marina to be turning people away unless they have unilaterally taken it upon themselves to do so.

From what i can see you can't winterise your boat but you can sail it, no excuse for fairweather sailors this year. Outdoor sports including organised sports venues eg sailing clubs, golf etc are NOT restricted by being in tier 4 (last I checked) so a sailing club can continue to operate, and people can travel to do sport.

I've quite a few dinghy clubs near me and the difference is interesting. Some are closed as much as they can and some are open as much as they can, same tier different policies.

A marina might not consider itself a sports venue until now but like pubs have done what they can to keep going by shifting emphasis I expect so could a marina redefine itself a bit. They could put some effort in and get legal advice (not the sort that just tells them to do the least hassle thing and close unnecessarily just in case) or they can take the cheapest way and just close to customers, just in case, and blame covid. The RYA hasn't visibly updated its advice regarding tier 4.

Clarence have imposed an aboslute lockdown. Only people allowed in are liveaboards and contractors

what happens if the people who sail with you live in tier 4 and cant travel, at least that is my understanding.
They won't be able to cross the tiers boundaries to do the outdoor sport. But on a positive note we'll all be in Tier 4 before the end of Jan so that won't matter then I guess.

Not a penny now or at the last lockdown unlike most of the major chains - rather unimpressed however they are cheaper than any other Solent marina

I know a couple of people who were going to go to Royal Clarence this year on account of their fees being less than thier competitors a bit further South but were prevented by the original lockdown.

Unless I am missing something they are currently in breach of their own contract...

Did they shut down like this in November?

That is not the case, some government advice suggests that is so but it is not supported by the actual regulations.

Provided the test of a "reasonable excuse" is met there is no restrictions on travel.

Some people seemed keen to invent similar restrictions back in November
