The Trade!

Re: Scruffy or what.

Problem could be of owners wishing to keep their craft in certain fashionable bits of the coast even if it is blimming miles away from home.No nipping down for a quick beer or tidy up if the thing is 150 miles away. Then poor old boat becomes to much trouble to use and goes up for sale but owner to far away to give regular fettling for any prospective purchasers.

some of the few good brokers do set prices.

1. If the boat is wrongly priced they do not let it go onto the sales pontoon.

2. They will not spend money on advertising unless the boat is correctly priced.

However these brokers are few and hard to find. In fact the good ones are mistakes of nature.

most are complete %^&*ers

The only ones that I know that are any good are:

Richard B^&^s Chertsey

Phil H&*^&*ns Bracknell

Mark P$%^%e Bray

Fortunately SWMBO doesn't have too much say in the boat and therefore use it to my advantage. Having worked in the car trade - I have a fair idea as to costs in preparation and use it in negotiations with the seller. It's usually obvious if it's cosmetic and negotiate a hefty discount off the boat (informing the broker that they'll have a lot of prep work from me - with no storage or movement charge - so they get their money that way).

The seller is normally grateful to receive an offer! /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

I know some very nice yacht brokers, I don't know any driving Ferraris, but I know Estate Agents who do. With the greatest respect the size of the market and the volume of turnover as well as the average price is a whole lot different for a job which is essentially the same.

I am aware there are lousy brokers just as equally there are good ones, I am also aware there are cheaper ways to sell your boat if you want to handle it yourself, but having said that I think brokers charges are reasonable.
