What, degrees, minutes and decimal places of a minute?
I don't believe you guys are so insecure with your navigational skills that you are getting so pedantic over....nothin, really. Is that what you teach? Doesn't matter keen students, just put in a minute tick wherever , no big deal. Shove a couple in.. one after the minutes then why not just put another one after the decimal minutes as well, can't hurt, more the merrier...
Or first release, put a few decimal points in, they'll work it out, decimal degrees - degrees decimal minutes - can matter that much, can it.....
Opencpn can work out pretty well between formats pasting in lat/long but really sloppy stuff like that is too much guesswork for a computer, it *does* matter. Sloppy military......
Navigational skills? I use a Marine SatNav.I don't believe you guys are so insecure with your navigational skills that you are getting so pedantic over....nothin, really.
So you really do teach sloppiness in navigation???I don't believe you guys are so insecure with your navigational skills that you are getting so pedantic over....nothin, really.
Don’t do much care about the mistake, more the pointlessness if posting lat long only.So you really do teach sloppiness in navigation???
And it's fine for the military to be sloppy? Aren't they meant to set a good example?
First offering, 2 decimal points in the lat/long - but that's nothin really, can't matter eh.......... 50.44 354 N 01.11.501 W
Righto teacher....
No. I excel. But I'm still missing your point. Try harder. So you really do teach sloppiness in navigation???

I can only suggest that you guys are getting all giggly about the first ntm that hat has now been re issued. So what exactly is wrong with the new one?Sure hope the RN sharpens up before programming one of their cruise missiles....
Fist Sea Lord: ?
"Ooh errr, sorry Boris, what do you mean we just flattened 10 Downing Street?"FFS that was meant for the Middle East somewhere."Promise to sort out those pesky degrees, minutes, seconds, decimals and what not "

What format is this? But I'm still missing your point. Try harder.
Plotted by several and in different places because the format is ambiguous - so which is it? Decimal degrees or deg decimal minutes? No way of knowing, plot and guess which seems most likely. Hardly perfectly acceptable, more like sloppy.
And? Might be a tad difficult plotting to three decimal places but where's your problem?RN's second attempt!
50° 44’.354’ N 001° 11’.501 W
What is exactly wrong with it? It seems that nearly everyone else but four of you on here plot like that. What format is this?
50.44 354 N 01.11.501 W
And you think it's fine to publish lat and long like that?
50.44? Seriously? Does anyone plot like that other than the good Captain? It looks at first glance like decimal degrees, which would be fine. But second glance reveals that it's not. What is exactly wrong with it? It seems that nearly everyone else but four of you on here plot like that.

So they tried it again and, although it's an improvement on the first, it's still not correct.
This is a great thread for highlighting an often discussed problem. Those that would spend a moment plotting the position on a paper chart, seeing that a . has been missed, shrugging and getting on with it versus those that are solely reliant on an electronic picture. The prudent mariner will always use one to cross check against the other and be relaxed and content.50.44? Seriously? Does anyone plot like that other than the good Captain?
