I don't believe you guys are so insecure with your navigational skills that you are getting so pedantic over....nothin, really.Is that what you teach? Doesn't matter keen students, just put in a minute tick wherever , no big deal. Shove a couple in.. one after the minutes then why not just put another one after the decimal minutes as well, can't hurt, more the merrier...
Or first release, put a few decimal points in, they'll work it out, decimal degrees - degrees decimal minutes - can matter that much, can it.....
Opencpn can work out pretty well between formats pasting in lat/long but really sloppy stuff like that is too much guesswork for a computer, it *does* matter. Sloppy military......

Richard, I sail all sorts of different boats with all sorts of navaids on them. Sometimes with nothing but an echo sounder. So I'm happy to overlook that someone put an apostrophe after some numbers by mistake. It doesn't trouble me a bit.

And it's fine for the military to be sloppy? Aren't they meant to set a good example?

Plotted by several and in different places because the format is ambiguous - so which is it? Decimal degrees or deg decimal minutes? No way of knowing, plot and guess which seems most likely. Hardly perfectly acceptable, more like sloppy.
Sloppy indeed but the ambiguities are resolved when one considers that the only viable position is the one within the remit of the QHM

So they tried it again and, although it's an improvement on the first, it's still not correct.

Probably done by someone from the submarine side of things ... they have notoriously iffy navigational skills ...

This is a great thread for highlighting an often discussed problem. Those that would spend a moment plotting the position on a paper chart, seeing that a . has been missed, shrugging and getting on with it versus those that are solely reliant on an electronic picture.
