Hi

Well, I have now gone and sold my old boat in Gosport and, being unable to keep the money in my pocket and be without a boat, am on the hunt for something that is a little more suitable to the Swiss lakes.

I have come across a lovely Sun Odyssey 24.2 nearby that ticks all the boxes. However I don't know this type and am not really familiar with Jeanneaus.

Does anyone have any experience of this model/range? I have come across a few magazine tests but some real life experience would be great, especially for things to look out for as I am viewing her on Sunday. Also, it is listed as a 2001 boat, which it looks like it could have been, but I have not seen any 24.2 younger than 1999 for sale anywhere in Europe and I can't find her on the Jeanneau web site either. Does anyone know the model history at all? Also, any price indications would be very helpful too.

Any help is, as usual, more than gratefully received!!

Thanks a lot

We have just sold our family 1997 24.2, which we kept on Windermere for the past 6 years. A few points, in no particular order.

Huge living space for the size of boat, even a useable galley (We swopped to a 2 burner cooker and grill). Nice modern interior and a toilet you can -just - stand up in.

Lightly built means its a doddle to tow but a bit of a handfull to sail. I felt it was like sailing an overgrown dinghy. I actually quite liked sailing it but the ladies thought it was a bit 'tippy'. I think it would be perfect for the Swiss Lakes.

Lifting keel gave a drought of 80-100cm depending on loading, great for getting places other boats cant go.

Easy to sail single handed.

Shameless sales plug - I still have the custom made cockpit cushions, if you are interested /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Any more specific questions ?

I had a 24.2 it was my first proper yacht. It was a fixed keel version. It was a 1998 model.

I really didn't like the boat, it had horrendous weather helm that I couldn't get rid off. I tried adjusting the rig but it made little difference, I only kept her for 8 months I was that disapointed. Its hard to put my finger on why I didn't get on with it, it might have just been my inexperience. On the up side build quality was very good and interior layout was good.

I would really recommend that you have a test sail before buying. If you are worried about the boats age check her Hull Identification Number see HIN
