Antares 10.80 Repower D3 220’s

Losing 80hp will not be offset by the weight saving and suspect that you will be very disappointed with the performance of the boat.

Actually the kad 300 pushes 285hp while the d3220 220hp . So he is loosing 130horses not 80 on both engines .

The midrange torque of a kad300 is also way superior .

The Beneteau spec says 260hp for the Antares, although as you say most sources including Volvo quote 280. Maybe the higher output is for the sterndrive version - the Antares is shaft. Whichever the D3 is not ideal for the boat

a friend of mine has twin D3's on a commercial 11m cat. During the summer, the engines run for 6 days a week for around 10 hours a day - he only runs at around 5-6 kts so they're not working hard. They're serviced (oil/filters) around every 3 weeks and the boat is dried on the slip 2-3 times a summer to service the outdrives. He has a spare engine on shore and can swap an engine out in around 4 hours. Currently both working engines are out and having a full strip down and overhaul - one of those engines was new in a crate and has only done 3 years since being taken out of the crate.

He rather wishes he had different engines.
