Hi everyone and thank you in advance for any input you may have.

I'm fixing a Sun Fizz that I have just purchased and need some advice regarding the bracket from the boom to the mast as mine has cracked. I have no idea where to purchase this part. I have trawled the internet for days. The replacement looks easy as the bracket is only pop riveted on. I just hope I can but this bracket individually and not need to buy the complete boom section.

Have replaced a couple of these. Sourced from the spar manufacturer.

It's not too difficult, just needs some thought about the reefing lines.

Good luck!

I wonder if that could be welded? Do you know the make of the boom and mast?
I did think that but would prefer a new part. I just need to find the thing and get a cost. I'm unable to find any manufactures details on the boom. Its a Sun Fizz from 82.

Thank you. How much did you pay for the replacements? Just so I have a ballpark figure.
Can't help with cost, they were a while ago!

The Jenneau ones I replaced were Z Spars. One of the Jenneau agents should be able to confirm from type and year. If i remember correctly, I spoke to Sea Ventures on the Hamble but that was a while back.

I went to Eurospars for a part for my Hanse. I cannot for the life of me recall the make of my mast (french) but they stock the parts for it

Apologies for the thread drift, but how feasible is it to carry the right equipment to do an ugly but functional welded repair on cast aluminium? I know that aluminium can be tricky to weld. Just curious how much electrical power it would take. Would you need to cart around gas bottles etc?

This is called a gooseneck fitting in the UK. Mast and rigging suppliers can usually find a spare part. Welding not a good idea unless you cannot get the correct part. In the UK I'd contact Home but i have no idea where you are.

I would suggest consider the option of replacing the boom for a new one. If that has crack has appeared then I would be inspecting very closely all other parts of the boom. There might be a number of benefits besides just replacing a cracked end fitting, On a Sun Fizz I think the main sheet connects in the middle of the boom, which could mean it is more vulnerable to breaking in the middle on an a very old boom, as did mine due to fatigue fracturing together with dissimilar metals corrosion on a 1994 Jeanneau.

I disagree with above. The fitting that has cracked is I think the plug casting that fits into the ali extrusion boom. Usually to my experience long lived.
If however Op is unable to find the right fitting to rep[laced the cracked one then I fabricated something to fit my round section Carbon Fibre boom with stainless steel plate about 25mm wide 4mm thick bolted on to the inside of the boom tube. The 2 plates being bent closer together and with a web across to strengthen it. yes a bit of metal bashing possibly welding ss so may not be to OP fancy. So my gooseneck is entirely home made.
re Seachange question. Yes you need a hefty power (mains) supply to power a Metal inert gas or tungsten inert gas welder (MIG or TIG) which both need a gas bottle to provide the inert gas (Argon usually) . Then you need skills to do the weld. Not probably not an on boat in place proposition. ol'will

It would be an interesting PBO article if it was possible to make a mould & form the unit in carbon fibre baked in the oven along with Viago's sunday roast.
In fact it wou;ld be an interesting article showing how any carbon item was actually made - if an amateur could make such a thing at home

Should be doable with some recycled Fray Bentos tins and a few pop rivets! 🤣

Seems like a bit of confusion there. Boom is CF an old broken mast section round. Gooseneck fittings made from Stainless Steel plate rivetted to ali mast and bolted to CF boom. 8mm SS bolts for axles on hinges. The suggestion in OP case is replace the ali plug with SS plates bolted inside ali boom tube. ol'will
