Get stuff into Turkey....

Obviously you have not spent much time in Turkey yet Poter. Easier to jump on a plane, fly to the UK and return that get a single item of anything into Turkey. It is stupid to get stuff into there except on a plane in luggage.

When you go to the boat show they will say we will deliver to any country in the world.....except Turkey.

Stop Cocks in Turkey

My advice is to be very careful on this one. I ended up fitting Blakes again. I know many think of only using ball valves now but Blakes not only must be serviced they can be serviced. I know to many who purchased from local chandleries in Finike who sold Turkish or Chinese sea cocks which lasted 3 years before you could kick them off. They don't seem to understand metals for boats too well. They will not know the difference between bronze and brass. My experience.

Hi Neville, Many thanks for that. Yes we do know about the chandleries in Limasol and also a good one in Nicosia. However I have decided that it is a haul out job and I realy do want an expert (engineer?) to do the work with me as a labourer. They are fairly well siezed on and will require some muscle power. Unfortunately due to age related illness I no longer have the capacity to do these jobs.

Once agian Thank You. Next time we are in Latchie we shall be sure to look you up. We shall be coming over in the car in November. Will you be there?

If they are seized ball valves, you may find it easier to grind off the outer flange of the skin fitting and knock them through to the inside. You can then replace the skin fitting and the valve with new sealer. Much easier than struggling trying to undo them from the inside and then finding the skin fitting moves and needs rebedding anyway. Bronze through hulls and DZR valves are the way to go.

Peter,

Are the stop cocks in question Blakes, Ball Cock or some other type.

Seized, generally means crudded up.

You could always try putting in some Hydro Chloric Acid. Available from Mar Par supermarket in Yennierinkoy, (Greenish Blue Bottle called "bingol"). That might eat away the crudd. Should'nt hurt a blakes fitting (give it a tap with hammer. Note "TAP" with hammer not sledge hammer). If its ball type or a.n. other you takes your chances.

Hi Albert, hope you are both OK battleing with those horrific winds. The said stopcocks are BALL Valves. The handle moves freely but the ball remains open.

Will e-mail a reply to Sheena later.
