True, but I reckon most of the honest folk among us will admit to a few where the beep did that come from? moments, even if they didn't require emergency action

Had a few of those moments... and I wasn't even the skipper. Embarrassed to say... it was the marina not a ship. ? . Completely got turned around while stowing stuff away.

This thread seemed to peter out surprisingly quickly. The forum does not usually arrive at a unanimous opinion so quickly where ColRegs are concerned. ;)

Right at the very end of the video, shame it was stopped there...... there is a post, is that a channel marker ? was dreamer in a channel (restricted by depth) and board man crossing ? still does not excuse collision by both parties

I think that is some kind of foil attached to the underside of the board ... but I've never seen anything like that in real life.

But things happen more slowly than he would have been used to on a motor boat. Provided that you look under the headsail every now and then, there is no problem with visibility on a typical yacht. Trouble is too many people can't be bothered to go and look.
That’s why we got our Genoa made so that it has a high clew - as we aren’t racers the disadvantage when fully rolled out is minimal compared to great visibility except for a tiny area near the tack and also no distortion caused by guard wires. Makes close quarters sailing much easier whilst still having a good overlap.
