You can inspect solid metal parts much more effectively than cables. A thorough visual inspection is sufficient if you know what to look for. If you have access to some inspection methods, such as dye-pen or MPI, so much the better. If you don't feel confident to do it yourself I feel sure you will find a rigger prepared to do it, at a price of course.
My insurers make me replace my rigging every 5 years, because my X99 has got a tall bendy mast and I race occasionally. Being a double spreader discontinuous rig with inners, outers, lowers, uppers, runners, checkers, pushers, shovers etc it's not cheap either. To get the cost down I remove everything myself, dump it at the riggers in a big heap and say 'copy that'. Once I've reassembled it all the rigger comes and tensions everything. It cost me £600 last time doing it this way, which pales into insignificance compared to the cost of not doing it and then losing an uninsured mast and set of sails. That would cost about £12k for me, the thought of which is a good incentive to get it done on time.
I also reclaim the old stuff and my garden has got some very snazzy fencing.
Out of interest, Pantaenius (www.pantaenius.com) has their policy on the web under 'clauses', and includes:
E. New for Old Deduction Clause
Where the Schedule states that the New for Old Deduction Clause is incorporated into the policy, in the event of Partial Loss, a deduction of 30% will be made from the claim settlement in respect of the cost of parts or materials where the part which is repaired or replaced was, at the time of the claim incident, more than 10 years old, other than the basic hull and deck structures of the Vessel. The deduction will not be applied to any labour costs.
They also have:
9. Racing
Unless otherwise stated in the Schedule, loss or damage caused by any Insured Peril occurring whilst the Vessel is being raced is subject to normal policy conditions.
10. Single-handed sailing
Unless otherwise stated in the Schedule, there are no minimum crew restrictions.
11. 24-hour sailing
Unless otherwise stated in the Schedule, there are no restrictions on hours or distance sailed in a twenty-four hour period.
... I've heard nothing but good about this outfit...
