Seriously, Prefer really does not come to mind. A fun day maybe though if you can deal with the crew on board. A boat is no use to anyone if you cant handle it single handed. Think your living in cuckoo land :sneaky:

You could get this which has much more wow factor for about the same price as the Contessa and you could sail this single handed.

I have a tiller. It is better for my Aries
As for washing with a bucket- well once again you are living in the dark ages. Still you would not need a lock on your toilet door, as I have never heard of anyone stealing a bucket of shit yet.
Racing? I could probably beat you round the cans in a single handed race in a decent blow as well especially with plenty of upwind tacking.;)
Your on then. That’s something to look forward too. I bet we are both bad loosers though🤔

True enough, and yet, to be fair, here we all are discussing C32s again. Not quite as many Hanse 311 threads on this forum, eh?
Of course . I was using the example of an AWB but one of which I have experience. It was comparing old with new & how out dated the old was. However, the Hanse does have a very good forum My hanse for those who are looking.

Each to his own, but she isn't for me. I want a loo that isn't part of the forepeak, for one thing. I get that they have legendary status, but would they be as highly regarded without THAT Fastnet race, when the weaknesses of current designs and the rules that influenced them were shown up so badly?

Of course they're good boats for a medium sized racer-cruiser; they sail well and handle bad weather, plus the lines definitely have that indefinable something. All the same, Mum and Dad pottering around the Solent or wherever with a couple of kids would do far better with a Pentland/Renown, or even a Centaur, and I doubt many people would choose one for a circumnavigation now.

But they did have that fastnet race. And Assent was the only boat in the smallest class to finish. Not only that but the RYA/RORC report picked her out as a stability reference with her AVS of 156 degrees. This was used as a comparator for a couple of decades after in the days whem ym/pbo did proper boat tests and compared the dz curve of the boats being tested against the co32.

Say what you will about the internal size, lack of shower, lack of IKEA grey funky cupboards but grumbling about the co32 only having legendary status because it survived the worst weather in uk racing history is a bit rich.

No you think I’d be the looser, which may end up not quite being the case. Now I’ll be back in 2025 so if your still bobbing around I’m up for some laughter. Hanse 311 pretty boat, I bet your toes don’t get too wet.😁😁😁

Theres no way a C32 can live with a Hanse 311. No course, no wind, no tidal condition could give you enough to keep up. Shame, but the boat, by modern standards is a slug. DDB would have to put a storm drogue out the back.

..... but a CO32 lies hove-to happily, you can take a turn round the deck or put the kettle on without engaging an autohelm - things a forum owner of a Hanse 311 claims his boat cannot do - and when the gusts come a CO32 just leans over a bit more, it doesn't round up or tack. As always its horses for courses and I have good oilies.

Thing is, even if what you say is true, who cares?

However lets look. In the 2016 Round the Island race I noted 11 Hanse entered, various lengths.

A 370 beat the fastest Contessa by 15 mins and a 411 and 385 just about drew.
The other 8 were roundly beaten, not by the winning Contessa but the top half of the Contessa fleet.
A Hanse 315 came in almost 2 hours behind the leading Contessa
A 301 was a hour behind.

I don't think it particularly matters, the Contessa's were racing one design against each other, but daft statements do have to be reined in.

2023 my mate entered his Hanse. He does not race it, as it is not equipped as a racing boat. He came 3rd in class. ;)

If I wanted to go round the island fast in a 32ft boat I would buy this. Save myself an hour of racing and 55grand compared to the CO32.

Thats an ugly Duck if ever I saw one. I took my Twister round the Island and it was like sitting in the slow lane of the M25. we got passed by so many boats it was hilarious. Skippers fault of course. Did manage to brew up though which I doubt DDB would have been able to do given the conditions. :ROFLMAO:
