Many years ago I was given a small pocket sized handbook called "Knots and Splices" by Cyril Day. Lost it and bought another, It's still in print and very cheap. Covers all the basic knots. And yes splicing a three strand rope is easy.
about the fact that rope should not be exposed to a lot of sunlight - bit difficult on a boat especially for a mooring warp although in the UK we don't seem to be getting much (sun that is)!
I guess this is probably USA 'anti-litigation wording' otherwise known as cover your *rse!!
Anyone in Plymouth/ Okehampton / Tavistock sort of area fancy getting together for a pre-season pub evening of socialising and splicing?
I'm sure that within an hour or so, all but the most seriously rope dyslexic would be able to produce a decent eye splice and back splice, with some helpful advisors on hand.
