Hi annoyingly I seem to have take a picture of the wrong bit of my Perkins filter water separator... Is there a standard size for these Perkins CAV filters?
Is it 4415122?
Or do I need to check next time I'm at the boat?

That looks like a Delphi (Lucas) 296. Lots of equivalents are available.

Yep a standard 296 filter, you can get longer versions for bigger filter area but have to get a longer bolt obviously.

There are two sizes for the Perkins: 71mm or 109.8mm. I think that is the smaller illustrated. Also I inherited some clone 296 filters and I found they were very slightly smaller than the 71mm and consequently the thread of the central bolt 'bottomed' just (only just) preventing a good tight joint. Replacing using the Perkins solved the problem.

FWIW the Perkins part number for the 4108 engine mounted fuel filter is 26561117, though it does not have the lower clear plastic bowl but a metal cup. The cartridge is not agglomerating (it has no slits on the underside face); that function is taken care of by a primary filter between tank and lift pump.
Yours has a clear bowl and does not seem to be mounted on the engine (?), so it's most probably a standard CAV head using a Perkins cartridge, most other 296 cartridges would do (and would possibly be better than the Perkins one as they would be agglomerating). Check if you have another filter on the engine or not

I was always puzzled by these, They are rigged so the fuel passes down through the filter, then up the middle pipe and out. I was tempted to rig them backwards so the muck dropped off under the element, and would be visible, rather than progressively clogging it..

I think it is more efficient this way to remove water by agglomeration. Some explanation here in fig 4 & 5.

I've just looked at my old filters and the Delphi 296 has holes in the top but the Crosland 522 I have as a spare is missing the holes. Does this make a difference?
