so whats WRONG with Bavarias then?

[ QUOTE ]
Guilty as charged, except, I could have bought a new Bav and considered it very briefly. I would rather entrust my fortune and occasionally life to a used quality yacht than what amounts to an unfinished project built down to a price and designed from the inside out!

a secondhand HR for the same money?.....

do they make 19 foot HR's then? or maybe a nice line in HR dinghies?.... not suggesting for one minute that they are overpriced you understand....

To describe it as a boat is exaggerating!

They obviously think that wood is naturally orange

[/ QUOTE ]

Don't be so harsh, orange just might be next season's new black!

Mind you I've heard that some dealers throw in sunglasses amongst the new boat freebies, so that's nice for them /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Joke: What mobile network do Bav owners use?
Answer: Orange of course

Magna while I agree with what you say, I do, but from what I have seen at shows and photographs, leaving the fit out internally aside, the Bavs are selling themselves too cheap now.

It is as though they decided to keep pushing down the quality until the market squealed, which is what seems to be happening now.

I am talking about missing backing plates, or the washers holding tons of lead in place, or the boat which had an aft stay backing plate only on 2 of the 4 bolts.

Now I sail a manky awd boat, but the fixtures, the bits we have to rely on are strong and solid. Decks do not creak underfoot etc.

I for one would love a bav interior, ok, they may not be built like a Victorian cabinet, but they look open and clean. I think Bav have this absolutely correct, bring the costs down by fitting out like a caravan not a palace.

My big fear though, from what I have seen is they have also skimped on essential gear and fittings and that is bad. I wonder of any of the Bav owners out there, have any not had to change an essential bit of gear, or finish a job such as securing a rigging anchor point after they took the boat.

All joking aside,

I think you may need to have another look, the ones I looked at recently are new unsold and so presumably the latest batch. I have never seen a caravan that poorly finished nor with woodwork (sic) quite that colour.

May I respectfully suggest that you check for the existance of a rudder. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif;)

It has been a few years I admit.

The ones I saw did look clean and nicely fitted, not perfect, but nice enough for weekend and holidays. The ones I walked around were comparable to Beno and other production boats.

If they are making the internals even cheaper then god help them.

If I was given one I would happily take it, but I imagine I would be beefing up some of the mouldings with grp. I would even consider retrofitting a frame!

Have you seen the production figures for HR?
What is the waiting list for a new 37?

If they were over priced, they simply would not sell.

Given your obvious dislike of bicycles, terraced houses and Bavs, I'd be very surprised if you have ever set foot in a caravan. Your profile lists your interests as

"Boats; Automobiles; Wine; Food; all proceeded by Good! "

Given your shocking misuse of the semicolon and misspelling of (I assume) 'preceded', let alone choice of 'Automobiles' instead of cars, I'm not at all sure your advice/observations are to be taken seriously.

zeafender says his boat has been great for five years.
I assume that means its five years old (or more if he bought it S/H)
The standards and build costs have been cut back each year.
Thus it dont need a brain of britain to figure that his "great" boat bears little resemblance to one built this year.
Past record counts for nothing if new boats are not built to the same standard year on year.

Overheard at a marina last week

Well spotted, I curse this Caribbean English key board. I have now corrected the Americanism to the more acceptable; Motorcar

I stepped into a caravan briefly only last week and, expect to again on more than one occasion in the next few days.

You are observant; life is far too short to be taken seriously!

Have a Feb 2006 Bav33.

To date the only things that have failed are

1. Shackle attaching mainsheet to car. Was bent so I replaced before it broke
2. AIS engine that I retro fitted.
3. Leak where jackstays were retro fitted by dealer. Fixed on day of delivery
4. Mis aligned streaming light, again fixed immediately.

This of course does not mean that there aren’t more things that I have not found yet.

There are other things on my warranty snagging list that is currently with the dealer. None of which are dangerous or serious. Most are just that I would like things improved from their currently workable state.
