Single handed x-channel

Don't forget Colregs Rule 5 and your responsibilities under SOLAS V for pleasure craft.
Have a good trip and remember you have to come back sometime

All focussed on the last 15 metres.

Prepare a flask or two of hot bevarages. More than you think you will need.
A stew in a pot ready to go. Keep it in the oven until needed.
Have a variety of sandwiches made up in tupperware boxes which seal and can be kept in the cockpit.
I used to keep a folded chart on a thigh pad, with a chinagraph. This was before I had a reliable autopilot. Similarly a plastic board to write on with chinagraph.
Equip yourself with personal kit like the handheld, compass, torch, spare GPS etc
Put lines on and fenders out all round whilst still out there, it gets manic when you are coming in.
Have spare clothing ready to put on at night.
Lay your bed out, you will be knackered when you get there.

Pro Plus or Red Bull is also a good idea.

Reef when you first think of it.

Have fun....... please post a thread about the trip when you get back.

The only difference between short handed with SWMBO and single handed is the peace and quiet. My tip is make yourself some nice sangies and have choccie bars etc by you before you start out. Have soup ready made in thermos and take a good book.
I also always stick to normal daylight hours when single handed and rarely arrive tired. Enjoy!!! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hi there

My wife and I are going from Haslar to Cherbourg tomorrow, Friday. We aim to leave 0600. We are in a yacht called Selene. (just under 30') If your timings are similar, feel free to call us on the radio if you want, and give us a shout and we'll glady take your lines when you come in.

PM me for my mobile phone number and the name of your yacht

My wife has made up a temporary mooring rope to cope with the loops on the pontoon ends. It has a carabiner which is passes through the loop and clips instantly back on to the rope - much quicker than a knot.

Why be green with envy? You are in a position to ‘go foreign’ to Ireland, where they are super friendly, have cheaper facilities , speak English, and have real GUINNESS!!

All victualled up - all from Waitrose so I expect I'll be eating my way across the channel - salivating already.

Hope to see some of you over there. Look out for a Moody 44 called "Hana".

And Happy Easter
