SIBS 2015

Good show as always but once you've seen inside one Fairline or Princess you've seen 'em all.

The Nordhavn 64 was my highlight and the American sales people onboard were extremely friendly, unlike some of the sour faced people on the Sunseeker and Princess stands.

Spot on!! Stood speaking to them for a while and there were very helpful and passionate about their boat!
 
We're going tomorrow. It's our second time and we won't know where to find anything so it makes no difference that it's the same every year. Last time we went I'm sure you needed an invitation to look around a Princess. They're out of our price range anyway. Some access to pontoons was closed because the sea conditions were so bad. Hopefully tomorrow will be better. We're looking for a mobo that I'd feel safe crossing the channel in (which might not actually exist) I'm thinking twin engine semi displacement. Currently we have a twin engined planing and I feel a bit like a cork squirming around when the going gets a bit rough. Am also interested in any info on marinas east of Plymouth with a view to moving next year.

After the show we're planning on meeting our daughter who's in Gosport at the moment. Any recommendations for a place to eat somewhere between Swanwick and Gosport?
 
I much prefered the new location of the RYA stand/lounge. (Just outside and in the hotel.)
I didn't go on any boats. I only had a couple of hours and had some specific stands I wanted to visit.
I didn't go on the pontoons due to last years long walk around. (I appreciate this has slightly changed but I didn't know at the time.)
Whilst I have no idea how busy it was I noticed some people packing up an hour before closing.

In the last three years of visiting the show I have called in / walked past the MBY stand and have never seen Richard or any beer :(
Is there some kind of secret door on the stand that gives you access to the med experience area ? :cool: ;)

Nope it was a single 300lb anchor but then it was a CQR so some so called anchor experts on Scuttlebutt might argue that a CQR needs to weigh 300lbs to be remotely effective:D

Ref the single v twin argument, given the choice I would always rather have twins even on a long distance bluewater boat but as I said I keep an open mind on the subject and I'm fairly sure that I could get used to handling a single engined D boat with thrusters in a marina just as incompetently as I handle a twin engined P boat. What I find interesting is that at least one well known American D boat manufacturer, Kadey Krogen, offers twins on their models above 52ft whereas Nordhavn stick with a single until they get to much larger models. Obviously some difference in philosophy here or maybe its just that KK use it as a marketing tool to entice twin engine devotees like me;)

I see him every year, and always get a beer. He's on stand E001½ :D

Yup there's always a sun lamp and fake palm tree out the back of the stand. You don't think that the MBY boat testers get their all year round tans from being invited to boat tests in the Med, do you?:D
