Whats the new regs on this??
The marina has admitted it isnt allowed to hike the unit price, but has now imposed a £1/week charge for the pleasure of being connected.
Thats more than i use, especially during the summer.
Is this legal???

Been there, done that, got the oily T shirt

That's only €9 per day for mooring including electricary. Lucky you're not in the Solent where you'd pay about £11 per day (note that's £ and not €) excluding electricity.

under new legislation re; electric charges the legislation does not allow for the marina to make a profit on the" per unit charge", this also applies to leisure parks,
the owner of the leisure park where we have our static sited has levied a standing charge of £60.00 per year for the meter to compensate for him not being allowed to make a profit on the supply of electricity (between 2 caravan parks with 500 caravans not a bad little earner) his reasoning "maintenance and up keep of electrical supply" umm not sure of that one as for what is being charged in europe?
i am not sure coz it is always britain that follow e.u regs to the letter almost as soon as it becomes" law" not so keen to apply these changes in europe tho perhaps it is time to move ."rip off Britain" no Britain is ripping us of at the moment shame ,best country in the world except for the damn weather

See your semi retired Julian join the club MDL I think now charge 6p unit instead of 11p but £8 quarter for "maintenance" makes you wonder what maintenance

Shore power charges. Pah chicken feed.

Latest forcast for the site I'm working on is £0.367 per MWH. with a £10,000.00 / Month standing charge for a stand by 10 MW facility. Now thats a money earner by anybody's standards.

I read your post about MDL charging an £8 per quarter "maintenance" fee for electricity supplies. You're nearly right but not quite! From the first of April we will be charging an administration fee of £8 per quarter. Our policy is as follows:-

"Berth Holders whose quarterly unit charge is less than £30 will not be invoiced and any usage will be rolled over to the next quarter and so on thereafter until such time as the unit charge is in excess of £30. At this point an invoice will be raised, together with the £8 quarterly administration fee. For the avoidance of doubt, only one quarter’s charge (ie £8) will be levied under such circumstances."

Therefore, if a customer's unit cost is only £20 a year, he/she will only receive a one off £8 administration fee during the season. I hope that the above clarifies our policy.

<font color=blue>People paying quarterly maintenance charges would soon be on their soapboxes if there were no charges. Why? because there would be no money to replace, repair or maintain existing facilities. Maybe they think the electricity company takes care of all that.
Personally I can see Marinas introducing water charges too. They are after all on a meter and boatowners leave hoses running without a care for that.
