selling the slug and buying a mobo

Do you mean picking them up from the water? Which part of the child do they grab? Maybe they end up with a boat full of severed arms and legs, presumably that's what causes the fatalities. But I don't recall too many, reports about it, or to be more precise, no reports at all. Am i reading the wrong papers?;)
QUOTE]

i didn't mean to say the fatalities were the result of that incident - but more generally of the type from powered craft in inshore waters -

I belong to a yacht & motorboat club, I've never heard a raggie v stinkie discussion and no one tries to be PC. A MB has even accompnied several sailing boats on a foreign jaunt.

Hello, this is true story. Completely unrelated to this thread:

My Jack Russell got bit by a bigger dog once. Now he barks at all the bigger dogs that pass by regardless of their temperament or intent.
The vast majority of the bigger dogs just pass by, but some growl back, which makes my Jack Russell bark even more.
I cant teach my Jack Russell that all bigger dogs aren't bad. He just wont have it. He knows best.
This is unfortunate, cos for all of his anxiety and heartache, the bigger dogs wont go away.
If only he wagged his tail when the odd bigger dog passed by, he might find that some aren't that bad after all.

Good analogy, and can be applied to most raggies what hate mobos. :)

good plan

I agree - totally unrelated to the thread - although it might inform raggies how one mobo owner regards raggies

I have never had a row with a mobo owner - all the ones I have met ashore have been perfectly pleasant fellows

all I do is to film the ones who are a bit incondsiderate on the water - I put the films on the web and sometimes you can hear me telling the camera - and the poeple who watch the films - what I think of their behaviour

Dylan

still waiting to see that film of these inconsiderate sailors silently and slowly being inconsiderate

incompent v inconsiderate

both excellent films

but what they are demonstratring is incompent yachtsmen when operating under power

I would have said that the people in my films of the speeding mobos

(way, way back at the top of this thread)

are not at all incompetent

their vessels seem to be under perfect control

what they doing is being is inconsiderate

and a few are being knowingly reckless

to be fair, moronic behaviour is mostly limited to the moboists just because they have the capability (horsepowerage) to behave in such ways

the very (slow, silent) nature of the sailboat probably prevents us from going there

Well, he won't be doing that again will he? At least not in that boat.

Unfortunately the MoBos that buzz innocent small boats at anchor or in channels are able to do it over & over again. AND, unfortunately they do so.

As Dylan points out they were not behaving in an inconsiderate or bullying manner - they are simply incompetent helmsmen.

I agree that most MoBos are lovely people & often generous with their Funbox contents, but the minority do give everyone some grief. I also agree that all boats bob up & down, it is a part of their charm. However the sharp flick of a short steep wash is a completely different motion that can throw people off the cabin top (it has happened to me) or cause accidents when cooking (as happened to Dylan). These are not isolated incidents, I'll gurantee we have all suffered (both MoBos & Raggies) in a similar way. Such behaviour is indefensible & I cannot understand anyone seeking to do so - it simply aligns you with the boorish & inconsiderate bullies. It's your choice.

While it is hard to understand everything being posted in this thread, especially when it is not in Your native tongue (I'm Danish). I haven't seen ANY raggie here expressing ANY hate towards MoBo'ers, however some have shown reckless and inconsiderate behaviour from fast motorized boats, and asked questions about why this happens - I believe in an attempt to a) Inform the unknowing b) Get ideas on what to do, and c) Vent..

I for one would still like an answer to my previous question.. :)

Another question, do the MoBo'ers talking about hate consider the behaviour of the MoBo'ers in Dylan's videos acceptable?

No, you have completely missunderstood. I see raggies (as you put it) as people in sailing boats. Beyond that I cannot comment. That is how I see you (and my dog of course) based on your posts.

I think you'll find that the vast majority of moboers do not support boorish washbuckling behaviour and are not attempting to defend or promote it. What does stick in our throats though is the blanket derision hurled at anybody with an engine larger than an auxiliary.
Your pious, holier than thou, assumption of superiority is completely at odds with the relationship I have with many raggie friends.

its interesting that over on the mobo forum, I don't recall there ever being any ranting anti yachtie threads. Don't imagine for a second, that this is a result of your impeccable behaviour.
My mobo is currently undergoing a 4,000 euro repair job from damage caused by a sailboat skipper who didn't know how to anchor properly. He was a prat, but I don't think of him as a raggie prat, just a prat.

my point exactly

.

its not the impeccable behaviour

its just that it is much harder to make a nuisance of yourself when travelling silently at four knots and producing no discernable wake than it is when you have 200 hp and 20 knots at your disposal.

the ability to impact other users is massively disproportionate between mobos and slugs

and in some ways that is the problem - too many mobos don't notice (or even worse don't care about ) the impact they have on other water users.

Quite often by the time the wash gets to the slug the mobo is 200 meters away
