selling the slug and buying a mobo

I think you'll find that the vast majority of moboers do not support boorish washbuckling behaviour and are not attempting to defend or promote it. What does stick in our throats though is the blanket derision hurled at anybody with an engine larger than an auxiliary.
Your pious, holier than thou, assumption of superiority is completely at odds with the relationship I have with many raggie friends
.

That's because it is an entirely imaginery construct of your own mind. No-one has been pious on this thread, nor have they attacked MoBo's in general. Why should you have such an inferiority complex? It doesn't make sense to me. I too have many MoBo friends, but that isn't what we are discussing. Boorish behaviour remains boorish, whoever is responsible. However, as it happens, few raggies are in a position to create much wash, whereas almost all MoBos are. This doesn't mean all MoBoers are boorish, but they all do have the ability to behave boorishly. It is to their credit that most don't, unfortunately some do & they often don't even realise that they are.

Seriously Searush, read the original post and tell me it wasn't to start trouble.

This is a typical Dylan post and you know it!

I think this sums it all up, hope you haven't seen it before, but hey it's worth repeating - note the 'boat' name...

its not the impeccable behaviour

the ability to impact other users is massively disproportionate between mobos and slugs
Dylan

in terms of wash - I agree, but there are many other ways to behave badly in a boat - see my post above. All I am saying is that there quite a lot of prats in the world and unfortunately some of them have motorboats. Some prats however have sailboats.
Its just your blanket tarbrushing that's offensive.
while we're on the subject,

my boat doesn't stink
its not a palace and I don't drink gin
I don't run my genny all night

! cruise at 7 knots through choice and get overtaken by yachts.

it is however a big lump of plastic - a bit like...........

You must be reading a different thread to me searush. Im not usually given to "imaginary constructions of my own mind" I suggest you watch and listen to the OP's initial anti mobo rants again. Nobody is attacking mobos in general????? The man is postively incandescent at the mere sight of a mobo, even when they are moored up and unoccupied!

All Dylan did was collate a number of his vids showing boorish & inconsiderate behaviour. It so happens that they were all Mobos beacause he hasn't experienced any such behaviour from raggies.

Do you deny that ANY mobos behave like that? No-one is suggesting that ALL mobo'ers do, but some certainly do. You were also invited to post your own example of boorish & inconsiderate raggie behaviour. After a Google search you found one example of suicidal helming by a yacht being motored.

Dylan's experience entirely mirrors my own, but I am no expert with a video camera (or any other camera for that matter) so I can't prove it.

I found ONE because I just did a quick search on YouTube. Like I asked Dylan, how many do you need?

I am enjoying all this so keep it up.

Ricky S,

yep, an incredibly stupid bit of zero brains let alone non seamanship,

versus 2 accidents.

I'll go along with that !

I don't shoot fish in a barrel, so I won't be continuing this discussion. Bye !

you maybe didn't watch and listen to them all. Try again. Listen out for the simulated vomiting at the posh houseowners choice of boat, the disgust at the sight of a moored mobo.
Normally I would rise above such childishness but I have had a bad day. Just paid the first part of my 4,000 euro bill for the damage that a yachtie did to my boat.

Like this one too.

That looks like a pretty effective rescue under sail of a boat whose rig has failed to me. Excellent seamanship. Or do you have another "explanation"? sail no 9113 is passing a line to the two crew members on the bow of teh disabled boat. 9113 has taken her jib down & dropped half of her main to reduce speed & assist the rather tricky manouvre. Very impressive.

Which part of it do you see as boorish or bullying?

The other pic simply looks like an unmanned boat that has broken her moorings. Sad but could happen to any of us. Again, neither bullying nor boorish & possibly not even any one aboard when it happened. Do you have another explanation?

its just that it is much harder to make a nuisance of yourself when travelling silently at four knots and producing no discernable wake than it is when you have 200 hp and 20 knots at your disposal.

the ability to impact other users is massively disproportionate between mobos and slugs

and in some ways that is the problem - too many mobos don't notice (or even worse don't care about ) the impact they have on other water users.

Quite often by the time the wash gets to the slug the mobo is 200 meters away

Dylan

I completely agree. I know motorboaters who frankly couldnt care less about their impact to others or the environment with their wash. They are idiots. I tell them so.
But, they are idiots who drive motorboats. They arent idiots becasue they drive motorboats.

Sorry to hear of your problems, I hope he or his insurance foots the bill as they should. But you are right, my so-called "broadband" has a max speed of 1/2meg, so videos bore me to tears as a 3 min one will take half an hour to play. I get fed up with watching the little circle buzzing round for most of the time.

Now watch Dylan's video of waders flying in swirling clouds, or sailing between the withies up a mud creek past the seals, etc etc & maybe you will understand why he has no time for the noisy or the flashy or the boorish. Then again maybe you won't.

That 4k Euros would buy three of the Slug, and yet he is sailing round Britain (slowly) in all weathers & making a brilliant video series of it. You have to admire the man. I do anyway.

Edit;
MikeJ42,I agree completely & I accept that there are idiots that sail raggies. Dylan's point is about the relative impact of either. But perhaps Bluegrass (& Haydn getting MF's davits stuffed) has shown that the impact (literally) of a sailboat can be pretty bad!

Perhaps the mobo had to swerve to avoid a sailboat who tacked in front of him? Who knows?

Still think this is a mobo bashing thread.

Don't worry too much about the antics of idiot water users at this time of year. They won't be seen again until the first Sunny weekend of next year.

IMO there are 3 types of idiot on the water.... in no particular order....

Those who use a mobo as in Dylan's films. A big motorboat is what naturally follows some peoples ideas of status/bling. Red brick house with electric gates, 4x4 of latest fashion trend..... what next....let's get a boat. Sailing? Too complicated, Sunseeker! This minority gets the decent Moboer a bad image. Money shouts, wealth whispers...

Minority of racing sailors who expect EVERYBODY to give way regardless of the Rules of the Road and second guess their course changes whilst frightening inexperienced cruising families with port/starboard antics.

People that rush to port to get a space, moan about rafting up, we are leaving at 04.30 etc!, tie ropes across vacant visitor berths so mates can arrive and be next door. Thankfully these people are rushing around the country buying all the bread, milk and diesel they can find in case it snows again and not boating at the moment!

Although the nouveau riche types without sailing background (mobo as easy option) are easily the most common nuisance, I'd like to add - often/mostly? sailing boat - charter types who discover there's a stereo with cockpit speakers on their boat and think a pretty anchorage is the right place to enjoy some of the worst techno ever made. Loudly. Common in popular med spots..

Another classic: Generator on, telly on. I think there's a (sailing boat) specimen in one of Dylan's films.

there you go again searush you just can't help yourself can you!

Why do you use the words "noisy flashy or boorish" as synonymous with mobo owners?
I also love mud creeks, seals, waders, lonely anchorages.
A love of nature doesn't excuse boorishness. And if you want a definition of boorishness crank up that broadband and tune into Dylan's ravings.

I've followed most of Dylan's videos and I've put the comments down to his tongue in cheek sense of humour, designed to raise a smile rather than a tirade against all mobo owners - I think I may have made comments in a similar vein, with the same aim.

Lighten up folks, just enjoy the videos.
