I guess its a bit like the " no mobile phones whilst driving " laws - they only apply when there happens to be a plod watching. And at sea there are no plods to watch. Maritime virtue signalling by Edinburgh?

So who is policing the fishing industry up there? Who is out on the water making sure that every pot is marked? Or have they just passed a law and left it at that?
The marine police I expect. There’s a team based in Largs. You can see their rib on the webcam. Had a chat with them and I know they monitor the fishing industry. I guess lobster pots come under their remit. I haven’t seen any dan bouys being used though, usually the pickup bouy type.

It’s the amateurs that are the Worst of the problem round here. Blue floating draw rope several metres at the surface. The pros seem to be ok with sinking line and decent markers.
