So how do they cope with warranted Blues then?
Warranted blue ensigns are perfectly legal and acceptable. I did once have to explain the significance of ours (a defaced blue)to a French customs man who did ask the question and was satisfied with my answer. Normally we would wear a red ensign anyway when abroad but this time we were in company with other club yachts.
The Saltire is not an ensign, nor is it valid sewn into a red cloth as a sad attempt to make it look like one. It does of course tell all around that the owner is either ignorant of maritime law or is being deliberately insulting to it, neither viewpoint being very complimentary. The same goes for the so called Cornish ensign, it might be a bit of fun in local waters but outside of UK waters it is invalid, illegal and a deliberate snub to proper procedure.
Wear whatever trips you triggers as a house flag by all means, but ensigns are there for the purpose of proper identification of nationality.
None of which of course is of any relevance to Webby trolling hard.
