Saltire as ensign

Because the boat's registered home port is in Scotland and I'd rather fly a Scottish national flag.

Surprised to see that this thread has been resurrected, but for info Fairwinds has flown a Saltire from the stern for the last two seasons. Fortunately no naval vessel has ever signalled me, as I don't even know if I still have a red duster on board.

The alternative is the Scottish red ensign

Oooooo... don't you have a red duster as a courtesy flag Webby? :D

Don't think I've seen that done.
It used to happen at Scotland-England sports matches: saltires on one side, union flags on the other. And I think the English team at commonwealth games used to fly the union flag, though I see that they now use the St George's cross

Maybe because English people see themselves as part of the UNITED Kingdom, whereas scots are stateless and want to be in a Banana republic inside the EU? :p

If Scotland does leave Great Britain, it will become two disunited kingdoms and a principality!
All still with the same royal family.

Whatever the outcome surely Scotland would still be a part of Great Britain which is a geographical entity. Certainly if independent it would no longer be part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland which is the political entity.

Then again of course the latter would no longer exist either! Interesting times.
