Just been watching a program on TV, all about Romney Marsh.
Part of it was about how every day, at high tide, maintenance boats pile new shingle onto the beach near Dungeness to re-enforce the banks, and stop the area flooding.

WHY? The place is a god forsaken hell hole. Let it flood, and when it's flooded relocate Slough there for good measure.

Think its deignated an SSSI. I wathced a prog on summink like that while ago. If they let it flood some rare weed or bug will be wiped out for ever as its/their habitat will disappear.

Is'nt there an old nuclear power station at Dungeness? I guess flooding would be potentially disastrous for groundwater contamination

Oh well, if you're going to be sensible........

The powerstations are operational. When they decommission them, there's a good chance they may stop maintaining the sea defences -

----then with any luck the whole of Romney Marsh will flood /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

Ooo eer. Just done a goggle search on Romney Marsh. 13,500 results in 0.14 seconds. Some of it quite interesting. So not as god forsake'n and hell hole'ish as you might think. And it is the last known place for some weed or other.

I really have got to do something better with my time!

In the deep mists of the past I remember going there to look at a power station, I think. It was a long time ago and all I can remember about the trip was Giles Barrow, a classmate, pressing his butt cheeks against the coach window at every passing motorist. You can tell I went to a good school can't you.

The Marshans are coming

The only good thing to come out of Romney Marsh was the fantastic Marshan Powerboats.

I ahd the good fortune to own one of these beasts for 13 years and suffered a damaged kidney from the high G levels.

The Sleap brothers certainly knew how to build a race boat

Now now, my old dad was pictured on the front of the Telegraph when Dungeness 1 opened, and yes I was also there. Lived for a few years in New Romney, about 3 miles inland but with mooring rings on the church walls, goes back to when it was a port.

Re Oi, lay off Romney.

If you are going to flood anything ,why not London or somewhere pointless like Birmingham.

Never mind the Bullring, hasn't it also got a statue of a woman in a fountain, fondly referred to by locals as "The Floozy in the Jacuzzi"?

My candidate for flooding would be Oxford; a pompous place filled with pointless people. Or vice versa.

)

the floozy is in victoria square that is top end of new street
keep going up new street turn right at the 500th beggar it is in front of you
the floozy is actually okay
they had another monstrous statue in centenary square by the icc which was truly awful but was burnt down
they now have a giant wheel there all part of the attractions that make birmingham a unique ...hang on

i am a fan of the place you can tell
