I used to have a really good roll flat hose many years ago. Looking for a new one 15 to 20m in length. Anyone bought one recently and is it any good?

I’ve got this one. Force 4 Super Flat Hose - 20m | Force 4 Chandlery
Had it for 10 or so years.
I have the same one. It works well but I only use it when not in my home marina when I use a garden hose reel that I keep in the car. The lay flat one takes up so much less space on board but has two main disadvantages. You have to remove the whole length of hose from the reel even if the tap is only 5m away and it is really difficult the get the complete 20m back on the reel unless you squeeze it all the way to get every last drop of water out and ensure it is wound really tight.

I always straighten the hose before winding onto the reel. This way any water in the hose gets expelled, so the hose just about fits on the reel.

We still have ours as per post#2 and it must be25 years by now - rarely use due to trouble to roll out water as described. Now use one of those blue cloth types bought on line -they have a small bore but ok to hang off stern/bow on plastic grip thingy as it drys . Somewhere we also have regular garden hose extension from which bits can be cut for rope protection etc.

The trick is not to eat it.

People don't really drink the water straight out of the water tank do they? It's used for hand washing, showering and washing up on my boat. Anything going directly into my mouth is bottled water, even for teeth cleaning. I dread to think how long it's been lying in the marina pipes before it gets to my boat, or what the inside of the water tank on the boat is like.

Where I am - the water is run often through the hoses - so for filling FW tank on board - just a matter of running hose for a couple of minutes before putting in tank. My tanks are treated end of season with sterilisation tabs ... I buy Military tabs - used by them to clean up river water etc to drink.

As to whether drink it or not ? Having been a traveller to many areas of the world good and bad ... I always followed the principle of not falling for the bottled water fad. I honestly believe that drinking local waters has given me ability to not have "Montezuma's trots" .... when travelling.

On the boat - the FW tank provides for Tea .. Coffee .. Hot Pots .. cooking s well as washing. I rarely drink plain water - preferring it to have something in it to taste.

The marina tap water comes through pipes just like everywhere else. The marina ones are probably relatively new and clean compared to the Victorian ones it traverses on its way there. Or the ones that feed your home.

Years ago - I read that the hoses we often use ... flat reel and so on are advised against as not food grade ??
The layflat hose, the one as referenced by several posters above and available from caravan shops too, is sold as safe for drinking water.

I use a decent quality expandable hose 20m long, it takes up very little space when not in use. Just remember not to leave it out in the blazing sun or they explode, I do this at least once a year,

The pipes feeding my house and everyone else's in the street have water hosing through them on a daily, and often hourly basis. Very different to filling your tank at the far end of the marina in February with water that's possibly been stagnating in them all winter.
