RM69 Marine Thunderbox.

Mine came with the boat (40 yo), no problems even including 4 years living aboard , I just replaced consumables like orings, lip joints etc, the pump once as a precaution; I noticed the quality of plastic of spares (original ones of course) has degraded a lot during say the last 5-10 years, I would not probably buy the same one today. The problem is when I go in other people s boats I am really not convinced by their Jabsco either :( many years ago also had one of those vacuum Lavac and didn t like it either, nasty surprises as people close the lid, pump and assume a brush is never needed; maybe the problem it s me :D

When we lived in the Netherlands we bought a new RM69 just after the valve chest on top of the pump was introduced, replacing the old one in which the valves were lower down. It was terrible! Failure after failure, culminating with the pump handle snapping in the middle of the Bay of Normandy. The lady owner of the chandlery at Hellevoetsluis acted brilliantly on our behalf, resulting in many free replacement parts and three replacement complete toilets. The final one was considerably better, so it seems we may have been unknowing testers.

Unfortunately the wrap around holding tank never worked well, the diverter valve was a rubbish design that should never have been released to the public.
