Riva\'s of old!

I've seen a Riva 30 for sale of 1975 vintage. Its got twin V8's on shafts and is in original condition and not messed about with. Needs a little work to tidy in one or two places. The price is stupidly cheap for a boat of this pedigree. Open to the abusers of the forum, whats your view on these things?

Depends what it is. At the approx 30ft length, there are Aquaramas (on which no comment needed, just buy it and restore it) plus lots of nice racy stuff like this

but also a lot of dodgier stuff. Do you have details/pic?

If that's all they are asking £1,400 then buy it. It must be worth at least £2,000

Re: Riva\'s of old!

I've seen some of them around in Italy.
Though I'd not call 14k£ a "ridiculous" price, it's definitely a good price, particularly if all the inside gear is OK.
Outside, actually it seems in excellent conditions.
For example, in most (or maybe all) of the St Tropez which I've seen, the windscreen is in a much worse shape.
This one seems perfect. Do you know if it's been rebuilt, or if the boat was sheltered most of the time?

Re: Riva\'s of old!

It's very cheap IMHO,, in UK would expect to pay £16-£20k ???? In France , JFM can probably confirm , €22-30k ??

So what's the broker's name then or do you want it ?

Umm yes would love it, but I don't really wanna part with the Tremlett! Sounds silly I know but me 'an the Tremlett have been thru a lot. I've not actually seen the Riva in the flesh. It does seem rather cheap, even with the jobs that need doing, mostly cosmetic, I'm told. The boat is at Essex Boatyards. The wife wants to go and have a look at it before I'm allowed to make a decision. She'd love it I know that for sure. At the price of a half decent 2nd hand luxury car, its gotta be cheap without the depretiation.

OK, to hell with it. Unbolt it and we'll use it as an anchor!

Re: Riva\'s of old!

It's cheap, no doubt.
I said that I'd not call the price "ridiculous" just because I've seen a couple of them on the market, in the 18-20K range.
And they were younger - '82/'84 as far as I remember - though they actually seemed older than this one.
Anyhow, at 14K, and if the internal conditions reflect the external look, it's a very good deal for sure.
Just consider that spare parts, in case you'd need some, could be a headache.
And forget the convenience of modern swim platforms - its sort of "arrow" design is very nice to look at, but not thought for real life usage, IMHO.
BTW, according to the official Riva site, it's been built from '76 to '92 (totalling 317 units).
If you're sure it's born in '75, chances are that it's a sort of unique/pre-production model ?!?

Re: Riva\'s of old!

Agrred it looks very nice, well tell us whether you do or not . If not I would seriously consider it as a run around. Hardly very expensive UNLESS it needs loads of work doing to it internally ... Presumably 'the scratch' isn't that bad???

I would love it. Its got those classic lines that you just don't get with todays modern boats. I prefer these "classic" type boats, they just seem to have a bit more style. Its the same with cars as well!
Serious talk time with the other half. Its gotta be woth a trip over there just to satisfy my mind that it not a total wreck! The other boat I'll be looking at is a Triana, if the info I've been given turns out to be true!

OK, to hell with it. Unbolt it and we'll use it as an anchor!

Re: How to post pics

just type as follows:

[image]full url of pic anywhere on www[/image]

I'm not sure how to size them, the pics I have posted have all been deliberately small - few hundred pixels - else the threads load very slowly on a modem. B1 probly knows how to compress a big picture

Picture of Riva far more exciting. That's what happen when you get old!

Old Chinese proverb 'Man who sail boat into rice field, soon get into paddy'
