I had a wonderful night aboard on Saturday.. we had been out all day enjoying the local waters... a good mix of cruising and a few hours fishing..

Got back in to the Marina sometime after 11pm and cracked a few bottles of red wine.. and boy did it flow.

Sunday morning unfortunatly showed that it had also flowed over the side and down my nice shiny GRP. AND IT WON'T COME OFF!

I've scrubbed and polished.. cut it with G3, buffed it with the electric gizmo.. but no joy..

Anybody got any bright ideas?

Jacob\'s Creek

Now there's your problem. A nice French Burgundy wouldn't have been so caustic...tis the difference between a wine and a drink you know ..none of you New World muck allowed on my boat you understand /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

Jacob's Creek Reserve, now there's a laugh!! What do they reserve it from, the tortious forced oak process or one of the other grape torturing procedures ....... aimhooc and noi

Re: Forbidden practices...(ça tache)

The Australians (and others) may add oak chips - and maybe more - to their wines to give them the politically correct oaky flavour-of-the-day. This will push up the tannin content, probably smoothed off with a chemical additive. The French regs
do not allow these practices. Since your boat is already stained, it would be in the public interest to pour the wines of various countries into your scuppers to see whether there is a national difference in the resulting traces. And then a comparitive test between bleach, oxalic acid, etc.
Hope this helps.

I don't know about doing this test deliberately, but I could keep notes over the summer as to what stain was caused by which wine... and I'm sure there will be many more!

The Aussies may add oak chips to the barrels but the French add antifreeze. OOOooohh

Re: Forbidden practices...(ça tache)

I find the idea of using Tomsks hull as a test bed hilarious /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif on a serious note have you tried "T'cut" never failed to remove all manner of stains from our boat, particularly good with bird **** which you are no doubt aware is a bitch to get off. Maybe the birds around Windermere drink Jacobs creek now there's a thought. /forums/images/icons/crazy.gif

You lot are 'orrible to me! Use your own boat for testing /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

Don't know about Windermere but if the bloody birds try drinking mine in Fleetwood they'll get a flare up the ars*!

Haven't tried T-Cut but started out with Farcela G3 and that didn't touch it!

White vinegar (chinese type) should do the job.
Also they say that if you spill red wine on the carpet, white wine is the perfect antidote to get it off...not tried it but it sounds feasible yin and yang and all that

Just in passing, which side of the boat was it on? I tipped port down the LH side of mine a few years back. I was mostly annoyed at the waste of good wine, but at least the correct colour on the correct side. Oxalic acid based GRP cleaner from the local swindlery got it all off in one go, leaving the stuff for about an hour to work and then a hose down.
