In a discussion at our sailing club last night, someone said that it was possible in some circumstances for clubs to reclaim duty paid on fuel. This was originally thought to be for clubs operating withina harbour conservancy area, but we thought it might have been extended.

Does anyone out there know if this is true?

As I remember it, Clubs can reclaim fuel duty for safety boats on tidal waters only, not used elsewhere.

Can't remember where I read this.

Clubs can reclaim fuel duty for Safety Boat. The boat must be used solely as a safety / rescue boat.

The form to reclaim it is HO 50 and can be downloaded from HM Customs & Excise web site along with info and advice on claiming.

Minimum claim is £250 but you can claim for last 3 years.

<note to self> must fill in claim form for our club.
