Re: T Cutting your boat

Sorry I can't access your letter to reply, it just will not open!

Anyway, my answer is DON'T!

T Cut is a yellow compound and in my experience it just makes white gel coat take on a yellowish hew. Use marine gel compounds, there are plenty of them around they will give you a far better finish and keep it white.

Do you mean Farecla? I recommend their No 10, a very fine cutting liquid, can be bought from auto factors.

I'd not reccomend using a cutting compound until you really need to. Best way is start off with a good cleaning product, anything with oxalic acid as the active ingrdiant, then go on to use a good quality polish.
I've only ever used a cutting compound once and that was to remove a few minor surface scratches.
Any decent polish will remove oxidation off the surface of the gel coat, cutting compounds will remove more gel than is really needed.

This is true, but I have to say that the winter grime never seems to come off with just a good polish, I use farecula or however its spelt! and I use it gently. The winter grime comes off and I then use a good quality polish.

It is correct to say that it removes the gel, but used carefully the gel will last many years.

Yes it does remove some gell coat but a very small amount, unless you go completely mad, Used G7 (?) on two 30 year old hulls and both came up lovell. used a sponge and slow running electric polisher, then polish. Then we ( well the wife, and she antifouls as well ) cleans it with Jiff, green plastic pan pad and polish each year.

I have to disagree. If you use T cut sparingly and only when neccasary then it is a very beneficial product. I have even used it on white vinyl upholstery to remove a really stubborn mark, furthermore I have never experienced any signs of yellowing; maybe the secrets in the term sparingly. In short "all hail the mighty T.cut may your bottle never empty"
