I've managed to keep out top cover going over the last few years with regular coatings of Fabsil but it now seems to be leaking and looks like the backing coating (whatever that would be) is going. Is there any thing we can apply to the backing of the cover to help keep it waterproof?

Coated Acrylic canvas, as is commonly used in sprayhoods, cockpit tents and the like, is just coated on one side. When the fabric pieces are sewn together, that coated side ends up on the inside of the sprayhood/tent. This is what then protects the coating from the sun and general wear and tear.. If it were on the outside, the cover would likely leak sooner.

Maybe to get the Fabsil to work better, the cover needs a better clean first.. Or perhaps your Fabsil could be used on the inside as well.

Another Brand that could be worth looking into is the Ultramar range of shampoo and protectors.. (I only discovered these after having used 'Wet n Forget' to clean black marks from the inside of a sprayhood only to find it took off all the waterproofing and turned it into a sieve. A clean and then protect with Ultramar products has worked well ever since).

Check out the Ultramar products at the Contender website...

Ultramar Textile Aftercare

And then go through to the options below..

Ultramar Fabric Protection -> Sprayhood & Tent Protector
Ultramar Fabric Cleaning -> Sprayhood & Tent Shampoo

It seems to be better priced at Contender than some other places..
