I wonder if it would cost at all; there are some that are free, some subscription, and Tollesbury was ideal for visitors last year because you could pay by the day; could this mean it could be installed at no cost to the marina and be paid for by those that subscribe to it?

I think whilst there's a long waiting list for moorings at Bradwell, it's unlikely to happen. Last year I did a lot of working for the office whilst at Bradwell (checking plans, I'm a building control officer) but we had a rule for home working that we had to be contactable by mobile phone. I had to advise this wasn't possible at low tide!

The current boat I'm using at Bradwell is too small to open a newspaper in let alone plans, so I can't really work there anyway.

Hi gang,

I think this may be my first post on the East Coast Forum so be gentle /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
I'm currently moored at Tollesbury in my MOBO and though the restriction of tide, i find the facilities very good. The 'Cruising Club' is nice and the chandlery on site isn't rediculously expensive so a general Thumbs up. Only downside i find is my boat gets fouled pretty quickly. Not sure if it being a 'natural' marina affects this.

My previous boat was at Bradwell for a while when i bought her and i have to say its a very convenient location with regards to no tidal restriction and the bar seemed nice but if i was there permanently the lack of chandlery etc would be a pain. You never know when you need a few odds n sodds.

Regarding Maylandsea (Blackwater Marina) my first boat was there and my previous one to this one was there for quite a while. Funny little place. The pub next door initally seemed like somewhere i'd avoid but actually turned out pretty good. And they're a friendly bunch there. Buffer at the marina helped me out any number of times with advice etc. And to date its still my favourite in the evening when the sun goes down. Gets really quiet and the view is great. I used to squeeze back in 2 hours after high tide but that would be a squeeze onto the top end of A pontoon and the boat was an 18ft planing MOBO with a tiny draft.

On the issue of fish, i was gonna ask this one..At Tollesbury when the tide goes out there are a good number of bigish fish which look like mini sharks.. (well to a fish dunce like me)
Are these Mullet like at Bradwell?

Well ramble over.... hope everyone got to enjoy our long deserved hot couple of days.

rgds,

Nick

I asked about wifi at Bradwell over the weekend (in between fishing for an "item" I dropped overboard - thanks Roger, David, Mike et al). Basically it isnt going to happen, but not for the reasons I thought (cost). The immediate objections related to people coming to the marina to use their boats, not to browse the internet, and also Bradwell just not being "like that". Bradwell does have that certain "olde world" charm to it so maybe they are right. Shame about the wifi though.

Well in some ways it's nice to hear them not conforming to current trends but for me, especially owning a petrol MOBO, part of the enjoyment has to be spending time on the boat and not necessarily going out at every opportunity. I would be bankrupt if i did. I guess that as they don't own the bar or have any other non-boating activities there they dont stand to make any money from people just sitting on their boats.
Maybe thats a touch too cynical...

It is a pity as i really like bradwell and over the weekend at Tollesbury, having internet access was really handy for finding out some quick quick data on an engine issue.

I use one of these (supplied by my employer).
It includes 250Mb/month download.
When we were in Bradwell the other week I had a reasonable 2G signal at low water.
This is a bit better than a dial-up speed.
I could not get a 3G signal.
I get 3G on the mooring on the Deben.
This give broadband speed.
The only issue is the content control put in place by Vodafone stops access to Photobucket so a lot of the photos on the forum don't show.
Still trying to work out how to get this lifted.
