What diesel preferably second hand will fit straight onto a volvo 270 outdrive without to much hassle. I want to replace an ageing aq130.
I assume these boats were fitted with diesels.

I believe very many P25's were in fact petrol. They went like the clappers, close to 40knots I think. One of the regulars recently converted one and fitted some KAD's in one so I expect he will respond. We have one with AQAD41A's fitted originally but some were fitted with smaller units.

Its not so much what diesel will fit in more what diesel will go with your leg ratio. I think you will probably be looking at replacing that aswell. Then you might have to change prop size.

Choices would be the D3 or D4 from Volvo, then you have the 260hp Yanmar and also the 260 hp Yamaha. Mercruiser 1.7litre would also fit.

Best of luck

Think long and hard before doing this.
It may be far better/ cost effective to sell and buy a diesel engined replacement.

I had a P25 that had previously been converted to twin Perkins 4108's. It was very noisy and would only do about 8 knots, even with the twins. I did want to fit a pair of Merc D1.7's in that, but it wouldn't have been worth it (although I'm sure it would have come close to 40 kts with such an installation!!).

The single D1.7 in my Birchwood 27 did 20 kts, so a single D1.7 in a P25 should be good for nearly 30. It would fit very nicely and be relatively quite.

Despite spending a couple of grand more, I agree it would be most advisable to fit a new leg with a diesel. Talk to Paul at Coastal Rides, or Lanceing for more info if you must match to the 270.

Best left running on lighter fuel.

I am with miket on this one.it will be less grief to sell your existing petrol boat and then search round for a (very very rare)diesel version.Bear in mind that spending 10k on a diesel + suitiable leg conversion will give you a boat worth a lot less than the combined existing value of boat and cash you will have spent on it.Asking top whack for this class of boat even with diesel will make it almost impossible to sell.cos peeps looking for this size of boat will not spend bucket loads of cash just for non petrol boat.
My old P25 with the 170 hp V6 engine would just manage 16/17 knots max.IMHO no amount of extra horses is going to get you a blooming danngerous(in this design)40 knots /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

Re: Best left running on lighter fuel.

IMHO market forces even out the values much more than you may realise.

A P25 with an ageing petrol engine in need of some remedials will struggle to sell more more than £8K.

OK it may not be possible to get £18K for one with a new diesel and leg in it, but £15 to £16K should be acheivable.

Obtaining a D1.7 at discount, selling off the old bits, and doing the work oneself, it should be poss to end up with a net cost of less than £9K. Of course the Lanceing route would be much cheaper.

Then it depends how many hours you use the boat for once converted (well before the end of red anyway!) A saving of £500 pa should be feasible.

Re: Princess 25.

Going much over 15/17k will put you in P32 territory.I reckon.
