Preferred channel mark video

Your explanation is clear but the markers are not, to my mind, intuitive for a first time visitor. If they want you to stay to starboard of the post then why not just make it red post. Presumably it is only locals with moorings that would use the other channel.

yes, it to make a secondary channel branching of the main channel. in the example I used , its entry into a marina.

Good vid Juls and I'd happily keep them on file as 'reminder' tutorials. Very helpful. Just one small thing....You're speaking too quietly...it sounds like a sex tape! Speak up woman!! LOL

Good point here but then the locals will know where the preferred channels is as I do in this case. I quite liked the quiet friendly tone. I'm looking forward to 'lisilou' posting one of her sex tapes now. :o

I was always taught the expression that one 'leaves' a mark to port or starboard from racing days past. The idea being that there can be no confusion between going left or right or keeping it left or right. Instructionally speaking, that would be my only contribution. fwiw.

Julie, am I right in thinking the preferred channel 'starboard' mark at night would be lit with 2red + 1green ???

they only flash one colour, so a red green red with main channel to starboard of the mark will flash a red 2+1 as the video shows, if green red green with main channel to Port then its a green light.

Phew, you had me worried then. So I can leave green to starboard and red to port. I thought we were shifting over to 'red right returning', like the yanks.:disgust:

It kinda freaked me out when the same post changed from being preferred to be left to port to being preferred to be left to starboard with the same boats beyond it.

Had to go back and watch again and then I realised it was just how you had edited it. :D

If I was making the video.

I would have tried to find a buoy to demonstrate rather than a painted pile. Unless the propose of the video refers to this specific location and mark.

A small point I would mention in the voice over as a simple way for identifying which is the main channel.

The main color and shape and top mark of the mark are for the main channel.
The secondary channel is the color of the horizontal stripe in the middle.
You did mention the color of the light is for the main channel.

Otherwise you get the point across.

Just curios is it for local knowledge? A boating course. Or General info.

Great , thanks for taking the time to make them. Have enjoyed and learned from them so far. Please keep doing them.

We have only fairly recently done our day skipper theory so the Vids that you have done have been good additions and reminders for us.

Thanks,

Andy
