Mr Shan and I are interested in a boat in Northern Croatia and we would want to get a pre purchase plus a tonnage survey done (preferably at the same time by the same person). Any recommendations?

Any other tips or hints?

The prices I was quoted in Croatia for a Tonnage Survey were crazy for what is no more than 15 minutes work with a measuring tape. I don't know where you're based but if there's someone in your local area who can do the tonnage at a reasonable price it might be worth getting provisional registration from UKSR and wait until home port to do the tonnage. It's a bit more expensive to do it that way but not much.

We are based in Portugal and plan to leave the boat in Croatia for a season, then move it down through Italy for a season, then Greece for another season and so forth and so on... basically exploring Croatia, Italy, Greece and Turkey over the next few years.

I had thought of flying someone from the UK out but the costs would quickly add up to what I guess would be a similar price to what is quoted in Croatia. We will do a Class 1 registration because we are not resident in the UK.

Baggywrinkle of this parish has just organised a survey for a boat being bought in Croatia and might be willing to share a suggestion, perhaps via pm?

Yes, I believe so except I have also heard the surveyor used, is to largely be avoided but thank you.

Depending on how much cash you are risking on the vessel, it can be worth considering flying out a known UK surveyor.
We did this for our boat (but closer in Atlantic France) and considered money well spent as knew had no hidden links to seller and acting entirely in our interests. Found some (fixable) issues in nearly new boat which justified costs

Yes, if we can't find someone that has been reliably recommended, we will end up flying someone out.

The problem I had was finding someone who was able to do both the pre-purchase and the Tonnage. If I was doing it again I'd treat the 2 as separate issues and look for a good surveyor for the pre-purchase.
