New RIB on a trailer in Windsor, would like to trail down for a play in the salt. Any good slipways with parking in Portsmouth, Langstone or Chichester harbours?

northney ..MDL.. has excellent slipway all tide access and ample parking. 20 mins out to the sea
through the 8 knot harbour
tidal access one at Hythe village marina, ample parking
most tide access by sailing clubs in lymington.. should find parking somewhere
or try boatlaunch on the web...

Northney can be a bit funny about day launches - wherever you go call ahead (and get a name!)

I went out today from Emsworth into chi harbour. I didn't know you could launch from Northney at any time (tide wise) so may have to look into launching there myself. Cash wise, chi harbours rates seem very fair, whereas Langstone harbour just under the bridge is pretty expensive in comparison. I don't know much about Portsmouth harbour it's self, but if you're looking to launch straight into the Solent there's a free public slipway at Lee-on-the-Solent opposite the hovercraft place.

You can launch at Itchenor in Chichester Harbour, or go to the Camber in Portsmouth. Deep water slip and good price with parking for trailers. Otherwise head more west and launch from the Hamble opposite the Rising Sun pub in Warsash, move up to Swanwick and launch from the slip next to Swanwick Marina - free. Then you head off to the River Itchen and launch under the Itchen bridge - also free.
What size rib? Also go onto http://www.rib.net/forum/and you will get far better advice than here.

It's a walker bay genesis console - only 3.1m so small, but with 20hp on the back, fun! Use it as a tender up here, but just bought a tow bar and trailer for £200 all in, so would like to go slightly further afield...
Lots of hours in a big boat at sea, so Portsmouth area with it's inlets, tributaries and isle of Wight seem appropriate. Only an hour and a half away too.

One thing, you can't launch from Northney at low water, especially springs of course, but you do get around 4 hours either side of HW.
The seabed in the narrow West Cut channel off Northney slip is quite solid and stony, not very prop friendly, but at least there's somewhere to leave car and trailer in safety.

Itchenor is main launching site useable at all states of the tide in Chichester. Parking for car and trailer nearby
Other sites at Dell Quay, Bosham and Emsworth. Parking may not be so easy at any of these ( OK AFAIK at Bosham, Roadside at DQ)
Licence fee payable anywhere in Chichester. Speed limit applicable throughout the harbour

For Portsmouth add Hardway ( Public slipway) to all above suggestions. Adjacent short term parking and public CP nearby)
If using Portsmouth its vital to know the rules about using the small boat channel ( mandatory not optional) and to observe the exclusion zone around Her Majestie's big grey ships See the Queens Harbourmaster's website at http://www.qhm.mod.uk/portsmouth/
Some charts to take a look at at http://www.visitmyharbour.com/harbours/solent/ but make sure you have a chart for your selected area, a compass and preferaby a GPS.
Check the tides in advance http://easytide.ukho.gov.uk/EasyTide/EasyTide/SelectPort.aspx ( Note EasyTide is in GMT unless you apply daylight saving)

google the Ferry boat inn , ferry road , hayling island
very wide easy access slip (pay langston HM at the side)
good parking
good food and drink/beach for the wife and kids (they might not like the sea but at least you can play while they eat)
£12 day to launch with HM RIBS very close by to look after you.
just get/borrow a hand held VHF before you go and remember to charge it first
