Rosas

Hi Monique,
Rosas was much improved when I last visited in about 2004/5.However all the sheltered berths were in the inner part of the marina.Visitors were on the outer pier, subject to severe Tramontana winds, but safe apart from the buffeting and annoyance of the prolonged conditions. It is not cheap either, though things my have changed since Austerity set in!
Empuriabrava, nearby was our home for a couple of years and again the buffeting was extreme in some conditions although the boat was safe and Marina staff were excellent.
It is an interesting area with Figueres Dali Museum, and the ruins at Empuries worth a look.
Port l'igat too as well as Cadaques, but do not expect to be allowed to moor anywhere except your home port!I still have a soft spot for the whole area of Baix/Alt Emporda, as I found everybody so nice and friendly.
Cannot remember anything positive about Palamos, but found that l'Escala was too exposed unless the projected 2nd breakwater has been built by now.Ok in summer though!.
Got away with paradise like conditions in Selva once, but second time nearly finished up on the beach with others.A desperate attempt to find shelter in the fishing area succeeded, but was not appreciated by the trawler men.Who cares once you save your skin and as a bonus your boat!Empuriabrava entrance is tricky in much onshore wind and swell.Rosas seems safer in the same conditions.Hope this is useful!

Hello Paul,

Thank you for the comments. The Tramontana is always present in the area.

We are edging towards Marina Palamos due mainly to the position we've been offered in the port.... quiet spot regardless of wind... and yes, the second breakwater has been built!

We should be there from early April until late May then across Golfe du Lion to St Raphael.

Will be an expensive summer but we must cruise the area before moving towards Sicily, Croatia then Greece/Turkey.

Thank you.
