The bottom line is that, for a deep drafted boat like yours and mine, there are relatively few options, especially at springs. MLWS is 0.6m, so you would really be looking for places approaching the 2m depth contour. You are explicitly required not to anchor in the channel W of Pottery Pier or in parts of South Deep (see the notes on paper charts), which would otherwise have been ideal.

And I don't think either of us can get into Blood Alley lake (S of Brownsea), where there should be sufficient depth at low water, since the charts suggest that you need to pass over a drying height in order to access it from either the W or E (and MHWS is only 2.2m).

There's plenty of room to anchor off Pottery Pier outside of the channel in more than 2m. Lots of people do it.
Agree that Blood Alley would be very tight. You might just sneak over the spit at the east end. Even if you're restricted to Pottery Pier and the South Deep, it's still worth it.

He means Arne I think or shipstal Point(?), you would only get there unimpeded at high water and have to search out a deep pool to stay put, nice spot mind South Deep works but you might bump even in the marked approach channel getting there and then beware wind over tide 'Maypole dancing' around your anchor! Few places to go ashore on the civilised side of the harbour for shopping except the Quay/haven or the slip at Salterns Marina. If no need for shops Studland bay is best of all in winds with west in them 2metre draught is fine just be careful when picking a spot and do the calcs, you will not be close to the beach for sure, but will be sheltered. try not to drop anchor on a seahorse or NGM's head or he will be hotfoot off to the BBC again complaining.

Blood Alley Lake (named, one assumes, following a full and frank exchange of views between the local "free-traders" and the Revenue) is a wonderful anchorage in a Northerly but getting there (not to mention getting out again) with a 2 m draft could be problematical. Are you feeling lucky?
Brownsea Island is a marvellous place to visit, I have often done so with my NT card in my pocket, but note that the commercial quay at the east end of the island is not available to yachts, much of the east of the island is also not available due to being leased, much of the north side is a nature sanctuary and also not available (chart should explain all) .... and the Pottery Pier in the W of the island is in a dangerous and ruinous state and its use is forbidden. Apart from that, you can land a dinghy on the island using the beaches on the S and W sides.

You can also land a dinghy at Shipstal Point which is a nature reserve open to the public.

We've had some fun launching the dinghy through thick black mud at low tide there; can't remember the precise details, but no problem at high water.

That's one of the beauties of Poole, wait an hour and the tide will be back in.
From Shipstal Point there are some very enjoyable walks through to the RSPB café in the hamlet of Arne. No shop for provisioning unfortunately.

One thing about anchoring around Brownsea is that if you have water at HW then at LW you can sink a foot or so into the black ooze, no problem, but you do need the right anchor for the ooze

CQR is perfect . It sinks in easily but needs a good tug to get it out. Very messy though.

For those visiting Poole with whatever anchor, Wareham and the Frome are true delights; sadly shallow so I'd think 2 metre draught right out, more like 1 metre pushing it.

It may require a bit of peering at the chart and almanac checking depths and regulations, but I find it unlikely one could not find somewhere lovely to be in Poole Harour.

Poole is a wonderful place. it must be 'cos it it says so on the huge town motto/flag in the corner of a massive white ensign which I have proudly flown up the forestay. even here in the USA. Got mine many years ago through PYRA and Poole Harbour Commissioners..

Don't keep telling people. You will be shocked when you get back and see all the new buildings, people and 20 mile queues through the forest on a friday evening!

However the waterborne activity does not seem to have increased much so still possible to escape on the water.

The picture is our boat (1.6m draught) anchored for 3 nights last year in a nice hole at Pottery Pier just off the buoyed channel. The hole is on our C-Map charts but it took a lot of hunting to find enough space to swing in. When we go back I'll lay a second anchor at the stern and not bother swinging which means it will be easier to find the water - the currents don't amount to much and the shelter is reasonable in anything short of a gale. I did pay the harbour dues by telephone but that's just me. We took our tender in to Poole and tied against a ladder on the town quay - nobody said anything and it was a couple of hours before we came back and collected it. We landed the tender right beside Pottery Pier and spent a whole day on Brownsea - paid the entrance fee at their shop - but that's just us. Marvellous place. One of last year's highlights.

Not so, looking at the number of 2m draft boats wintering at Ridge Wharf, but granted, getting up to Wareham isn't an option.
