Have I got it correct, we can now stay overnight in a marina even with a member of another family (eg myself and co- owner who is from another household) ?

Will marinas now accept visitors ?

From the 4th July he said, "caravan sites can open provided shared facilities are kept clean." So I don't see why this won't also extend to marinas and floating caravans :)

He said self-contained accommodation in general, but also the important thing is that the overnight rule is going (marinas were never required to close so no-one needs to tell them they can re-open!). The overnight rule is currently the only regulation preventing cruising. It has been mentioned on here that some places feel the need to restrict rafting (based on guard-rail contamination..)

And yes, you can meet other another household outside [edit: inside!] (he also said this would no longer be a legal restriction but guidance).

So, all good news.

[edit] Here's the relevant text: "From 4th July, provided that no more than two households stay together, people will be free to stay overnight in self-contained accommodation, including hotels and bed & breakfasts, as well as campsites as long as shared facilities are kept clean. Most leisure facilities and tourist attractions will reopen if they can do so safely, including outdoor gyms and playgrounds, cinemas, museums, galleries, theme parks and arcades as well as libraries, social clubs and community centres."

Rumour has it that only archbishops and generals can catch clap or pox from bog seats but what about Covid? Is there going to be an attendant there 24/7 to disinfect after every use? Guaranteed the users won't, some don't even bother to flush.

Well indeed, I'll stick to using the shower etc on board for the foreseeable where possible.

Just looked at the list of what can now open; it's quite long and exhaustive but made me laugh that "model villages" get a mention but Marinas aren't specifically mentioned. Makes me feel very insignificant as a sailor ;-)

Indeed; I suspect the only reason marinas weren't on the list of 'must close' businesses in the first place is that no-one thought about them (since campsites, caravan parks etc were included).

It was, of course, a relief that nail bars were mentioned.

Members of any 2 households can meet up, and stay overnight, and no restrictions on the number of housholds you can vist, as long as nobody from a 3rd household is present. And as above it can all happen from 4th July, until it goes wrong and the infection rate goes up again. BBC quoted somebody saying there is now only a 1:1700 chance of meeting somebody who is infected, and Boris says his experts have decided there wont be a second wave.

He seemed to be saying that from 4th July it will all be guidance and not legally enforced. So will they repeal all the travel restriction regulations on that date?

How does the 1:1700 compare with annual flu spread? As far as I'm concerned, I will choose those I want to interact with very carefully for quite some time yet. Second wave (in my non-expert opinion) is still likely unless authorities clamp down/isolate immediately any hot spots and contact trace properly.

The answer is that if we keep doing what we have been doing then we are behaving differenty than before the lockdown. The problem is that whilst most sensible will still be stand offish many stupid people will think we are back to normal and ruin it for the rest of us as the R rate will go up.

One in 1700?

1,000 new cases a day.
Estimate 10x as many people actually infected?
People are infectious for how long? 7 days?
70,000 infectious people?
So more than a one in 1000 chance of any person you meet being infectious?
On average I meet about 10 people a day?

How many times do you want to roll the dice?
And how many times do you expect marina staff, bar staff etc to roll the dice?

I won't be surprised if many businesses say 'thanks Boris, but we'll wait and see'.
