Does anyone know of a supplier of perspex washboards? Ideally I'd like to buy just the smoked perspex sheeting ( about 10mm thick ) and make them myself.

alex idont know of a supplier but i think perspex is acrylic, i maybe wrong but if it is then you are better off using lexan/polycarbonate instead, its not so brittle and the cold does not affect it so much, it will take a direct hit off of a flying winch handle and could take much more, after all thats what police riot sheilds are made of. ps when you cut it use a fairly fine blade in the saw and a medium speed otherwise the stuff melts and clogs the blade

Try looking in Yellow Pages under Plastic Suppliers - I've used places in both Norwich & Bury St Edmunds and the price was quite reasonable - I only bought exactly what needed & they would have cut it to your pattern if required. There are also people who advertise in the back of the PBO, YM & ST.

Have you considered one draw back with Perspex washboards; they let in the light and at night this can be a problem in some areas.

I have just received my new laminated perspex washboards. They let you see out, but no-one can see in and are really a work of art.. They were supplied by QD plastics in Dumbarton.

Agree with all that you say. Lexan is a brand name, its all polycarb' tho. Also poly will not discolour or scratch as easily as perspex. I've used it in physciatric units to cover windows etc. Its taken chairs and tables being thrown at it and survived more or less unscathed. If you do get any marks on it. They can be polished out with fine polishing soaps and a soft buffing wheel. Some motorcycle shops sell plastic polishing kits, these work well.

Mmmmm. When you break it. You break it big time!!

My brother in law has a perspex panel set into the washboard on his Westerly Pageant with a curtain across it. It looks great and has the added bonus of being flexible - light in when you want it but privacy when you dont.
