Asking for a friend: "I need personal insurance for sailing over 12 miles off shore ie to France. This covers being helicoptered off the boat with a serious injury. I am 74".
Barclays current account, I pay £12.95 a month, We get free travel insurance and get you home breakdown cover, the insurance works, dont ask! What was interesting was when I questioned them about sailing in Portugal, we are covered for up to 12 miles offshore, whatever that means.Asking for a friend: "I need personal insurance for sailing over 12 miles off shore ie to France. Do rescue helicopters charge for their service?
Try Natiowide, they do over 75's Flexi Account.Asking for a friend: "I need personal insurance for sailing over 12 miles off shore ie to France. This covers being helicoptered off the boat with a serious injury. I am 74".

I have the flexi insurance and it is excellent but I think he is specifically looking for heli rescue coverTry Natiowide, they do over 75's Flexi Account.
Surely if you are seriously injured or taken ill in mid- Channel the UK Coastguard would not refuse to lift you off and take you to hospital because you had no insurance? Presumably the French would do the same.I have the flexi insurance and it is excellent but I think he is specifically looking for heli rescue cover
Exactly, and in EU I relied on European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), I'm not sure what will happen when that agreement finishes.I’ve never thought about personal insurance for going across the North Sea. A channel hop is not more than a day sail so sail cautiously in a well founded boat with a DSC VHF and an PLB In a sensible weather window.

Thank you. Sound advice which I have passed onAFAIK most countries are signed up to the International SAR Agreement which will airlift or rescue an injured sailor off of the vessel FOC.
What happens once ashore, is of course, an unkown at this time.
I suspect we might have a reciprical medical agreement with most European countries in the future.
My advice is to wait and see.
Thank you, I have passed this on. He gives us sailing help, we provide a bit of tech savvy. Though he is a wizard with chartplotters and shown us how to save favourite anchoring spots etc,Speak to Topsail, they do personal sailing insurance.
