Parsun 25 o/b.

Considering the reputation ... maybe look elsewhere ?? But if cheap enough ???

Parsun was really popular out here when they first appeared - people salaries here are pretty low !! But if you go out on the river etc. now - you hardly see any. But plenty of 2nd hand traditional brands ...... and especially 2str's.

I declare openly that I have no personal experience of Parsum. Only observation and listening to those who had them.

Was looking only last week apparently almost Yamahas and ok

What does 'almost Yamahas' mean ??

Its well known that as Japanese production costs spiralled - brands migrated to China to reduce overheads ... but as China changed - many left and looked elsewhere : Brazil ... Mexico .... Vietnam ..... as examples.

We have a Parsun sales here in Ventspils .... according to them - its not a rip-off of another brand, but a real Chinese designed / built.
They do say though - Parsun parts are Yamaha 'compatible' ... which to me implies 'rip-off' .....

For many years I have had dealings in China ... visited often. Its true that many 'outside' companies have production there - especially components. Its not uncommon for the Chinese factory to literally run two lines ... the original and the knock-off. Its actually declining as Chinese costs spiral up ....
I would assume likely that Yamaha may have had Chinese Parsun as a component producer .... and that has led onto parts compatibility .....

Parsun Outboards
Parsun Outboards. Parsun Outboards is an international brand of outboard motors, generators, pumps and motors developed with the experience of our US and Japanese partners.
The company Suzhou Parsun Power Machine Co., Ltd. was founded in 2001 in Suzhou, China. The collective experience of our core technology team began in 1968. Including working with OMC (the original manufacturer of Johnson and Evinrude) to develop an integral component for heavy-duty outboard engines in the late 1990s.
Our US partner is Elco Motor Yachts LLC, based in New York. It manages the design, technology and patents for our outboard motor products and accessories, as well as the global sourcing of key parts and materials.
Each new outboard model has passed more than 500 hours of rigorous endurance testing before mass production. Each outboard is inspected for at least 1 hour before leaving the production line. Our outboard engines meet current US EPA and European CE standards.
The Parsun brand and patents are registered in China, the United States, Canada and more than 100 other countries.
Parsun supplies outboard engines for government projects, NGOs and the military. For example, we delivered UN aid projects to African countries, the United Kingdom Navy, the Russian Land Forces and the Indonesian National Armed Forces, and so on.
Parsun was the official sponsor of the outboard engines at the 2017 World BYTE Sailboat Grand Prix.
Parsun is a subsidiary of Eastern Precision, a subsidiary of the Shanghai Stock Exchange.

Sounds good ..... but ??? it mentions OMC ... not Yamaha ....

For my money, there’s little that can touch a Yamaha 4stroke twin (or it’s derivatives) for silky smoothness and reliability. Worth spending the extra I reckon.

I suspect at end of day ... given the cross-over with engines / parts similar to that of cars ... sticking with any recognised brand is a better deal ??

I also tend to look at 2nd hand market - see what is more numerous in the near new / not so old ... against the much older and still working ...

Why does a brand get sold on after a short period vs another brand that tends to not be seen until literally ancient ??

Guy who does servicing of Outboards here (private biz) will not touch Russian or Chinese O/bds ... not because of nationalist political views (rife here ! even before Ukraine) ... but because he reckons they are not worth the effort. Give him and antique Evinrude etc. and he's happy to work on it ...
